Does anyone use one? If so, how does it shoot? I'm thinking about one in 9.3x64

I have one in .404 Jeffery.....it's a fine barrel.

I don't know if they make their own or if they contract them from another Mfr!

Brian made me one in 25 caliber about a decade ago, accurate and fast, good barrel.

I have one in .300 Win Mag (not chambered by MRC). It is very consistent.

Vapo, they make their own barrels. Originally there was a barrel making company, later the company making actions was created as a separate legal entity. I believe the two copanies are still separate, but the ownership, use of facilities etc has traditionally been intertwined.

Have one on a 9.3x62 MKX Mauser. Shoots 1 1/2"
3 shot groups at 100 with iron sights. Havent got around to putting a scope on it yet. Well pleased so far.

I have one in 450 for the Alaskan. !/2 Octogon and 1/2 round. My first barrel from them was very rough and looked like the cutter was chattering but they replaced it without hesitation.
I really enjoy it and it is very accurate.

I'm planning on sending in a receiver to get a 9.3x64 barrel from them also. Any clue on how long it takes to get the barrelled action back from them?

I have a 1999 Montana action barreled by them - stainless in .358 Win. It is very accurate and super smooth. I have gotten several 1/4-inch groups with 250 gr Hornady bullets and most loads are well under an inch.

I got a #3 contour CM barrel in .308cal. Shoots OK not great, rough as guts on the inside. Verified that with a hawkeye bore scope. As a result it fouls quite badly. There is no way this barrel was hand lapped as they claimed. Now it maybe a one off but then again my friend also got a MR barrel in #4 fluted also .308 cal, also fouls very badly, also in CM (Have not personally bore scoped that one). Co-incidentally, both our guns turned out to be 300 WSM's on MRC1999 actions - that's how they sold us on them as they were prepared to export barrels together with our actions.

Most of the people that say their Montana barrels are good have stainless barrels. I would say these days most would choose the stainless and maybe the CM stuff is old stock that has not had the QC that they should. But definitely not lapped as they claimed. I posted on 24hourscampfire & their son Jeff who now runs/owns the MRC(action) side claims they do lap their barrels but that is not what my barrel tells me. Heck a Ruger factory barrel was better finished and the new Lilja that I bore scoped at the same time - Wow! now that is what I call hand lapped.

But for the samll diff in price b/w a MR and a "Name" brand I just would never take the risk again and order any of their barrels. Lesson learned. I've been told I could send it back but as I am in Sydney, Australia it is just not practical, plus there is also the cost of the gunsmithing, blueing etc.

I had a custom barrel profile made by MRC to resemble an old British barrel made by Westley Richards.

I have not had the opportunity to handle it yet, but the metal work was done by Jim Dubell, and then it was stocked by Bill Gostomski. Bill shot 1 inch groups [100 metre] with iron sights while regulating the three leaf express sights. He was impressed and called from the range to let me know how well it shot.

I guess I am lucky since I did not have any of the troubles discussed here with MRC with either the service, barrel, or action.

Mine is a short action, right handed, CM, in 6.5X55 with a 25 inch custom profile that is awesome inside and out.

I have 7 or 8 of them in various calibers in both CM and SS. All have been great shooters. I don't have a bore scope so the bore has not been examined, but when they shoot like these do there is no need.
