The .338-06 - how popular?
I think that Bluefish can solve his problem with little expense.

80 cases is peanuts compared to the work, time, and expense to have a semi-wildcat made. Put the 80 cases on Gunbroker and give someone a blessing who already has a 338-06.

Then get to work on the 9.3x62. Everything that you might want to hunt with the 338-06 you can hunt with a 9.3x62. The difference between the two is the difference between the 270 and 30-06, close to bupkis for most situations, assuming proper bullet choices and accurate loadings.

If you really want to hunt with a .338 caliber, then the 338Win Mag is waiting for you. It is a marvelously versatile cartridge, loaded like a 338-06 or full power, anywhere from 3400-4100 ftlbs, with bullet weights from 160-300 grains. But your 9.3x62 will cover most of the situations of the 338WM, except maybe pronghorn and best bullets for ranges over 300 yards.

"A well-rounded hunting battery might include:
500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" --

Hopefully one of these days I'll decide which round I prefer, the .338 Win. or the 9.3x62..Today its the .338 hands down, tomarrow maybe not, and its been that way for a long lifetime... Roll Eyes
