Just got back from the 'ol range, and had a smile on my face all the way home!! First groups were shot with 45gr. Varget, CCI primers, Fed. brass. She shot under a 1/2" all day today at 100 yards. My trusty 'ol 168gr. SMK's. A little fouling at first, followed by great accuracy. Very practical rifle. I would highly recommend one to any who are considering one. Especially you "wrong handed" shooters!! LOL US Optics SN-3 3.2-17x44mm works like a dream!! Best scope bar none that I have ever held. MOA reticle by USO is simple, and dead on!! Badger rail and rings worked perfectly too. Thanks to Marty @ Badger for switching out my standard rings for mediums. .sakofan.. Oh yeah. I'm gonna name her "Black Betty".. Bam ba lam.. For all you old rock and rollers!!!!

Well, at least one of us had a good day. My new M700P is vertical stringing (45 Varget, Lapua, CCI and 150gr SST and 150gr XLC). The Brownell steel bed is curing as I type. I noticed the action seemed "sloppy" in the stock when I had things apart to put a trigger in (factory was 9 lbs and turned into a lousy 2-stage with adjustment). Maybe I need to switch to MKs??? I hear they are good on deer Tim

Quote: I love em!! Give them a try, Tim. The 168gr. will probably work for you like they did for me. The rate of twist is the same, I assume. Tim, I'm going to email you about the steel bed, if thats OK...sakofan..

Quote: C, I put them in at 2.80, by the book....sakofan.. Didnt do so hot with the 175gr. MK's, 44gr.Varget, Fed.210 primers, at 2.80 oal. I really thought the 168gr. MK's would do well, but was hoping the 175gr. would shoot tighter.

Quote: I haven't measured it yet, C. I keep threatening to buy a Stoney Point guage, and I never do ...sakofan..I always use a fired case, bullet. Crimp the mouth a little, and cycle a round gingerly a few times. I know it's not that accurate, but the magazine in this rifle wont take a round over 2.85 or so..sakofan..

sako,..buy the sinclair seating tool instead of the stoney point. The theory behind this tool makes much more sense to me. Instead of a "fake" case which has probably NO similarity to your individual chamber used by the stoney point,..the sinclair tool uses a fired case from YOUR chamber to set it's measurements. That alone makes far more sense to me with respect to the case head-to-shoulder measurement than the case which is supplied/purchased for the stoney point which may or may not correspond to your chamber. IMHO the only way to get the stoney point correct is to send them your fired case for each and every rifle and pay them to modify them to fit the tool,...far more cost prohibitive than the sinclair tool. Spend that $20 on the sinclair,..it is one of the more usefull tools I have on the bench. Thanks for the powder data,..I will be burning some here directly.

Mark, I made the call for you, (you owe me man) Dave told me stick with powders like Varget, RE15, VV540, 4350 not a good powder for the 308, but can be used. Jay And he said to seat the bullet 10-20thousands off the lands.

Mark, I'd go with some RE15, 41.3grs. is the max and the hunting load in the Sierra manual, me thinks you'll have the best luck with this powder, or you could call Sierra and ask them what they think would be a good powder besides RE15, I'm told the military sniper(175MK) round uses a powder like RE15. Thanks sakofan,..I have been shooting 168gr match ammo,.winchester supreme match to be exact. It is the only factory fodder that will fit into the .336" neck I have. Time to load some lapua brass and "get er done" I like the sub .5moa she held at 250yds the other day,..so the bullet seems to be right. The powder is what I need to experiment with. I appreciate the accuracy load. What was your distance away from/into the lands? Thanks.
