after a few months of research i've decided that i have to have a CZ 550FS in 9.3x62....i have two future trips in mind....one to alaska and one to newfoundland....alaska for grizz and sheep, and newfoundland for moose, black bear and caribou....from what i can tell if i don't have this rifle i can't even get a license....my second gun is a marlin 1895 45/70.....i could use some suggestions and insight as to a particular brand and weight of bullet for my all-around load for the 9.3.....i'm well sighted in with the 45/70 with 405gr. bullets @ 1800fps.....i have great confidence of it out to 150yds.....the ballistics tables say that the 9.3 can seal the deal at 300 plus.....any and all experience and comment welcome...thanks in advance....bearit....

The 9.3x62 is not an ideal long range caliber, but it will do. I would use a 250 gr. monolithic like the Barnes at about 2600 FPS or better, or the great GS Customs 230 gr. H.P. at probably 2800 or better, it shoots flat and will lay big plainsgame animals and elk down in a hurry. I have used this load on big game and I chronograped it but didn't record it or lost the records. I used 66 grs of H-414 and another max load of RL-15. The 286 gr. Nosler at 2520 FPS was a good all around load and I used 58 grs of RL-15 with the Nosler. My rifle had a 26" barrel and these were max loads but worked fine in my rifle and brass lasted well enough.

atkinson....thanks for the reply....do you thinkthat the barnes will give good expansion at longer ranges? the penetration of the barnes is legendary at any speed, but will the tip of the bullet just blunt way out there?....regards...bearit....

Bearit go to the Barnes website and look at some of their high speed photos of bullet expansion. They show that most of the bullets expansion takes place as soon as it enters the animal or ballistic gel and at lower speeds than most people realize.

Don't forget about the 286 gr Nosler Partitions.

I have shot alot of Barnes TSX in my other rifles but my Husqvarna 9.3x62 really like these Partitions. I get about 2.5" - 3" groups at 200 yds - and I can hit the range's 300 yd. gong with no problem with these.

That's all I can ask of it.
