personal opinion only friend....the 44 mag scope by Simmons is the only good scope they make and it's intended for a varmint rig.

The .270 Weatherby is a serious hunting rifle and I'd be looking for a 3 X 9 X 40 scope in a brand you trust. Leopold comes to mind.....

Steve,
You should get a leupold vx1 3-9, not too bad of a price and well suited to the 270wby"s capabilities.

I've seen them last for years on many rifles, even on some pretty stout "kickers." I don't think you will have a problem w/ the 44mag but, I'd personally feel more confident if I had a Nikon Buckmasters or Burris FFII on it, they don't cost much more than the 44Mag (about 169 for either last I checked).

I think the Aetec is by far the best scope Simmons has. I've seen Aetecs really take some abuse and never lose zero.

The new Simmons Master Series looks promising, seems like they are doing some good mods to try and "stay in the game" on the low priced quality optics market.

Good Luck!

I just put a Ziess Conquest in 4.5 X 14 on my new .270 WSM and it is a real honey. I smile everytime I pick it up and it keeps me smiling after I shoot it. clap Good shooting.

Not to highjack the thread by any means but, I have to agrre w/ ya phurley, that Zeiss is a doozy. I put one on my 7 Mag a while back and that is one heck of a scope. The clarity on paper out at 200 was quite nice compared to other scopes I've used. I can't wait to line Ole' Bullwinkle up w/ that baby.

I just changed the scope on my .270 Weatherby Mark V Deluxe. After years of service my old Redfield 6-18x gave up. I mounted a Burris Black Diamond 4X–16X–50mm. Side focus and Posi Lock makes this one perfect for a long range hunting rifle like the .270 Weatherby IMHO. Lawdog
