This is a new powder that was just released. It is the powder used by Hornady for 204 Ruger factory loads, and it is supposed to reduce copper fouling. Based on the incredible velocities reported in cartridges with similar expansion ratio's, I'm wondering is this stuff might work well in the 9.3x62. I guess I should call Hodgden and get it straight from the horses mouth, but I thought I would ask you guys anyway. Thanks ahead of time for your comments. Matt FISH!! I just happened to talk to a Hodgdon rep at a deer hunting show in Topeka, Kansas last Saturday. (1/28/2012). I asked that very question -- how about some data on new powders, like CFE223 powder?? We looked at a burn rate chart. I can not quote the burn rate chart exactly, but CFE223 was between Varget and H4350. It seemed perfect to me, and I explained that I had just spent the day cleaning the copper out of my 9.3x62. The answer -- They are working on new data and that I should check the web site, because that is where the new data is posted. That seemed like an honest reply. | |||

I called up Hodgden this morning and they said that it will probably be a very long time before they get around to testing CFE223 in the 9.3x62 because they don't see a high enough demand for it. However, I was told that CFE223 is an appropriate powder for the 9.3x62 in terms of burn speed. Sounds like we have to go for it on our own or just wait. I suspect they would do the work soon if enough 9.3x62 junkies called them, or sent them emails about it. Matt FISH!!
