New rifles from India
Just got this from a friend - this is the new rifle made by the Indian Ordinance factory - Sauer 202 action made in India & imported barrels. The rear sight sucks. I am told that the action is not as smooth as the original Sauer. Cal 30'06 - he gets 1 " groups with federal ammo.

Wow, an Indian "Sauer" - that is new to me!

Does the stock have quite a bit of drop??

I have had great curry in London....and India makes Mercedes Benz & BMW cars.

My problem with the above rifle is that it is made in a government factory not known for good quality control or finish. The rear sight is an abomination - probably a 98 Mauser unit left over from the old 8X57 rifles they used to refurbish in the Ishapore factory.

If it was made by a high tech entrepreneurial firm, I would not have a worry.

The site looks like it weighs almost as much as the rifle.

What is the price of these.

If they are cheap enough one can always work on them.

I'd like to see the licensing agreement with Sauer.

It looks like many of these things, it's close, but no cigar...

I guarantee with that stock shape it kicks like a donkey and the sights look like something on the most basic CZ rimfires. The forend is poor and the sling stud is right where you would put your hand.

Notice the poor finish on the barrel at the breech end. Doesn't look like anthing I have ever seen from the Sauer factory.

Yuk.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

If the price was right I would buy one! I suspect they are making it for the American market.

That's nothing new

Just like a Indian Range Rover which the Queen is riding in

Italian make Purdey

so on an so forth ........

its a global market my friend

They are selling lots of them in their own market and they are NOT asking us to buy it.

Wait till you hear the price they are charging

This industry stems from the fact that there is very little private ownership of guns in India

Yes, I noticed that as well. Looks like the new factory needs to go through a couple of additional product cycles to get there.

I also wonder, why India?? Apart from being an impressive upcoming economy, why manufacture a hunting rifle in a country where no hunting is allowed??

During much of "The Glorious Days of the Raj", the British rule in what is now India, there were many FINE rifles MADE in Calcutta, by firms such as "Rodda". These, were "copies" of British designs and were very sound guns that did the job on Tigers and Elephants, etc.

It seems to me that supporting gun making ANYWHERE on Earth, is a wise idea for we gun lovers and hunters, as our ranks are diminishing and we need ALL the economic clout we can muster to fight off the commie-gun grabbers of the accursed U.N. I would not hesitate to buy a gun from India and I hope that they CAN and DO develop a successful firearms industry...and, they CAN build guns as well as any other nation.

This one might be a bit rough, but, I have seen plenty of '60s and later American iron that is only fit for a boat anchor. I have also handled and refused to buy BIG NAME British guns that were pretty sad and priced totally beyond reason, so...........

I've seen the odd Indian made gun here and there. Mostly Ishapore made SMLE rifles.

That was way back and things move on but this looks reasonable enough to me.

Personally German or Indian I don't like this style of hunting rifle.

But 1" at 100 yards is better than a lot of "All American" Ruger rifles can muster!

Just got off the phone with the Sauer rep here in the US, as I am a dealer. The real Sauers are still made in Germany. He is going to contact Germany, try to get a response by tomorrow sometime, and I'll give everyone an update when i get more info. Mike

Where, pray tell, are Orvis fly reels and even their rods made, in the USA or, horrors, China, perhaps?

I stick with old English-built Hardy reels and now have a Sage rod, as I understand that the Hardy tackle is also made by litte, sandal wearing, etc........

I "like" the specs for "Trigger Pull" (I would have expected to see the MINIMUM value rather than - or perhaps in addition to - the max) and "Range" (400m)...

The spec for "Barrel" ("Chrome Flash with 4 Grooves ") is a bit confusing. Four grooves is clear, but what is meant by "chrome flash"??

Chrome flash means the bore is chromed like many military rifle barrel to protect against corrosion. At least that's how I take it.

Flash plating typically means a very thin plating here in the USA. It should say 'chromium plated' if that's what they mean .

Sir, you are entitled to your views but many Indians would find your comment offensive and ignorant.

You might want to do yourself some credit and find out a bit more about science & technology capabilities in India.

I am wondering if I can score a stock from them as well.

I just picked up a Sauer 200 and some dip tard has shortened the stock to a 12" LOP. Glad I only gave $400 for it bit the folks at Blaser are not even returning phone calls.
