Went over to Bass Pro today at lunch looking around. Decided to buy another gun(Definitely don't need another and don't have saferoom for anymore Ding! Ding! Good Excuse to convince wifie a new fire vault is just a have to have ) Anyhow, decided to look at a 243WSSM(hadn't hunted with a 6mm in years and ought to be a great rifle for our WY antelope hunts) Grabbed a box of 95 grn NBTs and rings and bases for an abolt then, had the guy let me handle the Stalker. It didn't feel right, the stock just didn't fit me. I put the mounts and NBTs back on the shelf and decided I'd pass. Then...I just happened to see they had the Stainless/syn Tikkas on for $549 he had std carts and a 300WM. I told him I'd take the 300WM. Both of my 300s are heavy bbls so I figure this one would make a good light carry rifle for elk. It's light and I bet it will loosen a few fillings. I'll hit the bench in a little while and see what I can stir up for a range session Tomm. I've got some 180 NABs, 180 NBTs, 180 NPTs, 180 HDY SPFBs and a few others that should give me an idea of how she'll shoot. I have a VXIII 4.5-14 i picked up for $400 on ebay that should sit well on top. I went with burris DDs on the T3 I bought a few weeks back but, I think I'll give the matte Blk Tikka rings a go on this rig, hopefully they'll hold up. They seem to be built ok. Seems like a pretty good deal heck, I'll only have a grand tied up in the whole rig. You gotta love it. Reloader

Hee hee, you're easy to please. Go from .243 to 300, Antelope to Elk, which you already have two of by the way... just like that in a few minutes. Bet you're back for the .243 as well soon....? I'm just jealous. I haven't been able to do something like that in years....boo hoo. "Hunt smart, know your target and beyond"

Maybe, just maybe. The 25-06 should be more than enough for now on the lopes. The 243WSSM is interesting. Quite a funny looking little cartidge but, I ran some numbers in my ballistic calculator and she's quite flat shooting, should be a heck of a lope or deer round. Reloader

Reloader; shot one of those t3 in 300win mag that my guide had while bear hunting. Was not hard kicking at all and very accurate.

Took her out to the range to try a few loads. This one is probably going to be alittle finicky, only load that went moa was 180 Partitions over 77grns 7828. I think that l;oad can be improved upon and will make a nice elk load. I also intend to give the Triple Shocks a try. Have a Good One Reloader

Hey Reloader, " IF " this is the correct link, perhaps it will make you feel a bit better about not getting the 243WSSM, due to the REAL Velocity compared to a regular 243Win. Just looked and that is the correct thread. Here is the quote I found interesting:
Best of luck with that new rifle.

But that 50-60'/sec improvement will add 6-7" more range and sure enough the next time hunting them 'lopes the darn thing will be standing just 6.5" out of range!.....with the WSSM, I got em! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Yeah, I figured it would have probably been similar to a 6mm remington. I could have probably made it dance with some handloads. A MkV in 240 or a 6mm-06 would probably be much better choices. Quite a funny looking little cart, that WSSM. Reloader

That does put it in the proper perspective.
