Has anyone tried this combination. Can you tell us what velocities you are getting?

Well, Barnes claims it got 2300 fps with its 300g, which is pretty amazing. Have to check the COL and bbl length, but if it's 2.8" and even 24", then you have a good chance at besting that. Even 2200 would be meaningful in the right situation; if you got close to 2400 you'd be loaded for bear. The 280 has the SD of a 310g .375 more or less....

Woodjack ----- I shoot the 270 grain Northfork with my .358 STA's, and to my knowledge there is no 280 grain bullet in their line. There is a 280 grain Swift A-Frame and I have also shot it extensively. The Swift bullet is very tough, but not as accurate as the Northforks in my rifles. The 270 grain Northfork is an awesome bullet indeed at 2950 fps with my STA's. I have taken several Elk, a Zebra, Hartebeeste and Impala with the bullet. My son, shooting one of my STA's, shot a big Bull Elk at 125 yards through the shoulders with the bullet continueing on and penetrating nearly completely through a Cow Elk head, lodging in the off side of the skull. The Cow was twenty five yards beyond the Bull. My STA's shoot the bullet considerably faster than the .350 is capable, draw your own conclusions about your rifle. Good luck and good shooting. phurley

Phurley, have you always been in KY? I guess I hadn't noticed. You guys are getting ready for elk season, right? You're guys have done a great job getting that herd up to par. I hope TN and some other Smoky states will be there soon. Yeah, Woodjack, 280g Swift. The North Fork isn't much more expensive, and will go faster, being lighter. You should get close to 2400 fps. If you have a 350 Mag I'd love to hear the results. But honestly, I think a good 250g bullet will od all you oght to be doing with that chambering. North Forks and Swift both make one in that weight, a bit more designed for the velosities you might expect from it. Nothing against a heavier, slower bullet, it's just the paying $1 per for a super premium bullet that raises the brow. [edit] The 280g cast Lee comes to mind...

Bwana-be ----- Yep, always been in the "dark and bloody ground", where the Elk came back to live. There is also a captive herd near me in "Land Between the Lakes", that is not hunted. It sure is nice to hear their bugles in September. Kentucky is giving out 100 tags this year for the Elk season. I have not participated in the draw yet, may someday. I have a great place to hunt on a mountain in Northwest Colorado without a guide and being in a group of friends and family and the group leader I will hunt there every year as long as we can. We pay a trespass fee and hunt mostly BLM ground. Good shooting. phurley
