I saw a Tikka 658 with a really nice wood stock and blued action in .270 today at a pawn shop. It looks a lot like a Whitetail Hunter, but has a plastic bolt guide bushing on the bolt. Anyone seen/shot one of these. It looks to be an older rifle that from all appearances has not been shot. The plastic follower on the magazine still has mold flash on it and the bolt bushing shows absolutely no wear. Any info on this model would be greatly appreciated. How do they compare to current Tikkas?

Bobby, I had one for several years, a .308 Win in the Battue model (M558). It is an excellent rifle, very accurate. A friend owns it now. The Tikka factory worked over the design to allow them to produce rifles at lower prices and got the T3 model. The older Tikka rifles are higher quality than the current production, closer to Sako in appearance. IIRC the bolt bushing is delrin, and the bolt stroke is very, very smooth. jim dodd
