What's the concensus on epoxy bedding the CZ 550 ? I'm thinking I should do it but only because after a series of shots at the bench I've noticed the point of impact changing due to the front action screw loosening slightly . My thinking is that there's a little too much room under the front of the reciever and that I should fill that with epoxy just enough so that I have the right amount of pressure at the forend tip when the screws are tight. Also how tight should those action screws be ? I read 50-80 inch pounds on one of these threads on the front screw . I think that if I applied that much torque I'd have way too much pressure at the forend tip. Is anybody freefloating the CZ? , and if so how has that worked out ?

Which caliber?

If you have a CZ 550 medium in the American stock, free floating with epoxy bedding will work quite well. If your action screw is loosening, the stock may be binding on the action or barrel.

As for how tight, well, snug. 30 - 40 inch pounds is more than plenty.

Just for fun, take the bottom metal off of the action and test the action screws in their respective holes to see what ype of fit you have. If it is real sloppy, you may want to use some low strength lock-tite when you do your final assembly. Do not use the red stuff.

Free float the barrel. I believe it actually is supposed to come that way, but I had to relieve a small amount at the forend tip. I've shot a goodly number of rounds thru my 9.3x62 (from 232gr Normas to 286gr Partitions). All hold their own impact point. Just last week I put some bedding compound (Brownell's AccraGlas) in the forward barrel lug"hole". I've not had a chance to shoot it yet (snow/sleet event here in VA this week), but have previous targets/loads to duplicate so I can tell if any good/harm was done. By the way, it is a MOA rifle without any bedding. Good luck. BobG in VA

I have the 550 Premium in .270 with the American stock. So freefloating is the way to go is it ? I like the idea and it does (they do) seem to have a pretty stout barrel . I was thinkin that blue loctite might be a good idea myself . The threads are quite free . They spin easily with just light fingertip pressure . It shoots right at an inch now , but you can always hope for an improvement . I've trimmed the stock down a considerable amount fron it's original tree trunk shape . Applied about twenty coats of tung oil and recheckered . the bedding will be my final improvement . Haven't figured out how to post a pic yet but I will one of these times .

I bought a 550 Lux in 9.3 when they came out and never did a thing to it. In 7 years it has never moved a millimeter. My buddy bedded his around the action and slightly under the lug and barrel and it improved his group size minimally but didn't make it more consistent. It was already good.
