Hey Jimmy, I have one in 308Win and like it real well.

Had a buddy buy one and he was showing it off to me. Everything was fine until I held it and then it really was impressive. I decided I needed one without even firing it.

It has one of the best designed stocks I've ever used. The Recoil pushes the stock away from my cheek, so there is "less" recoil sensation. And it has an excellent Decellerator Recoil Pad which works great. And for whatever the reasons, it fits me perfectly.

It typically shoots in the 8s which is not as good as my normal Remingtons, but is plenty accurate enough for Deer inside 600yds.

So, I like mine. But like all rifles, each is different and you could get one that shoots better or does not shoot as well. Sure is a pleasure to carry though.

My experience with the Ultra Lightweight is only in handling one. My personal experience with the Weatherby designed stock is with a Accumark in 338-378. Even without the brake it is manageable but weighs in excess of 10 lbs. The Ultra Lightweights are under 6 lbs with non-magnum chamberings and under 7 lbs with magnum chamberings. Though light the stock design really helps manage the recoil even if you have one chambered in 300 Win or 300 Wby. Even at 10 lbs my Accumark handles remarkably well and the ULWs are even more impressive.

great information! I know the Rem is probably going to be the most accurate, I just cannot warm up to them again!

Highly unlikely.....I have two MK-V's a .30-378 and .460 custom. Comparing them to a Remington is like comparing a jug band to the Philharmonic. Try to find a custom shop rifle in inventory somewhere at a dealer and you'll have the best unless you make something yourself.

See Here

Agree on the stock design....also they offer adult sized LOP's for those of us who have monkey arms. Big Grin

I just picked mine up last week (.270win), and will get the scope mounted this week. I really like how it fits me (I am really anal about how a gun fits). It took me a year to pull the trigger on it, but right now I am a bit giddy about it. It will be used for Mule deer and speed goats in the rocky mountains. I had heard that sometimes there are issues with accuracy, but never could confirm it. I spoke w/ a couple of weatherby reps that said if there is any problem, they will stand by it. It is purty for a ss/s rifle

I have had a few of both and find the analogy a bit of a stretch. IMO, the Remington is a turd and the Weatherby is a polished, expensive turd, but a turd nonetheless. The analogy can be more aptly stated: The Reminigton is like a jug band and the Weatherby is like a jug band with well dressed musicians; however, both can be entertaining. hillbilly

I've never been a real Weatherby fan.. and some of those had a rep for not being very accurate...

but I have handled a couple of them, and I really thought they were fantastic... Weatherby did a good job on those...

I didn't buy them as I can pretty much duplicate the same thing in another action...

but one in the 338/06, a 7/08 and a 243 would make a really impressive 3 firearm arsenal...

I'd put Weatherby into the same camp as Kimber. Both make very nice and expensive rifles. However, there are a few more lemons in the batches than acceptable for a rifle costing as much as they do. Most can be fixed with bedding and/or recrowning. You can find used Weatherby's at significant discount off their original MSRP's because of this. Buy one, bed, and recrown and you'll have a shooter.

The Kimber has an advantage of CRF, especially while Winchester is out of the picture. This also sets them apart from Remington actions. Their short actions are also nicely porportioned.

A 30-06 Weatherby ULW fills a lot of niches. Lighter than most rifles with a full size 24 inch barrel. Most lightweights have shorter barrel length. I like the short bolt lift but the six lugs are harder to true up if that matters to you. Most people are not going to notice the difference on a hunting rifle. Also, most lightweight rifles cost similiar to the Weatherby ULW. Such are Remington Ti and Kimbers.

Price is one reason why Weatherby is not as popular. You can make a Remington shoot just as well with the same amount of work. More aftermarket parts for Remington, more smiths for Remington. If you want an accurate rifle in that price range you'll have to compete with Sako who has a much better accuracy guarentee and usually exceeds it.

The only reason I don't like mine is because it's hard to justify another rifle. But what does need have to do with me getting another rifle?

As a side note, I paid $1149 for my UL, NIB. It was old stock, and the box was smashed. I figured this left me with a few $'s in case I have to send it to the smith.

The Kimber montana was on my list but its almost a full pound heavier, and I am not crazy about the stock. As soon as someone starts making aftermarket stocks for the Montana in a different design I will look at them again.

I love my .257Wby. UL, most accurate magnum rifle I own. Has done .25MOA if I do my part.

I have owned one, and after spending hundreds of dollars in ammo, return to factory, gunsmithing, more gunsmithing, then a barrel change, it is one of my favorites. So yeah I like the eventually improved Wby Ultralight.
