Took my new Kimber 84-M out for a test drive today. 1st thing I noticed was how comfortable it was to shoot that teeny light weight little rifle, off a bench, with fairly stiff loads. Now the .308 is not a big kicker as I am sure most of us will agree. But I have fired some rifles in witch it had quite a thump. And since I just had a cortizone shot im my lower back, I was not sure how it would feel to squeeze one off. It was fine, les kick than with my heavier .308s. Good stock design and a nice pad. Also the trigger is so loight crisp and clean that I felt good about 50, of the 52 shots I fired , and the other 2 were not like called flyers, just not quite so sure. As far a acuracy goes, It did reasonobly well for a 1st time out and I think when I find a load it likes it will be really acurate. It did'nt seem to like the 168 grain tripple shock real well, but I only had 6 rounds to shoot , but the groups were 1.4 and 2.10. The third shot in the larger group, opend up what started out as 2 into .75. so I might try that one again sometime. Powder was RL-15. With my 150s It was ok with the hornady flat Base over 47 grains of RL-15. 4, 3 shot groups avaraged 1.47. with the best at 1.05. Not to bad but I would,nt hunt with that load unless it was all I had. I did alot better with a 150 grain speer hot core over 47 grains of IMR-4064. I had an avarage of 1.13 for 4 three shot groups, with the best being .55. Now that a good enough load to hunt with, and if I had a deer hunt tommorow, I would load some up. But as it is, on the way home I picked up a can of vargut and a box of sierra 150 grain flat base spitzers. Think I will try the speer hot core with W-748 and the sierra with the varget. I really wanted to get some 165 grain sierra HPGKs, but there were none there. Any way I think this little kimber is going to be one heck of a hunting rifle. carries like a 30/30 and shoots like a .308. I,ll keep you updated...tj3006 freedom1st | ||
