They work well for me, too. I really like the takedown feature and the consistent return to zero when reassembled.

The Blaser takedown case is compact, light, and strong and fits in the drop bottom of a rolling duffel I found, so traveling with the Blaser is so much more convenient than with a conventional rifle/case that I almost always take the Blaser. I took the cased rifle to Africa and back earlier this year with nary a problem.

I just bought a .243 Win barrel for mine and with different combinations of two powders and two bullets, all groups went sub-MOA at 50 yards (3/16" to 5/16").

As for recoil with its thin pad, I, too, was concerned about that. I have a Safari Synthetic in .416 RM, and with the Kick-Stop installed it's very manageable. I've heard more than one report that the standard Synthetic in .375 H&H has less felt recoil than a conventional rifle.

I also have a standard Synthetic stock without Kick-Stop, and with the 9.3x62 barrel and 286-grain handloads, it is quite comfortable to shoot. I suspect, based on a limited amount of experience wth a .308 Win Blaser, that the wood stock versions might have more felt recoil, perhaps due to the possibility that the synthetic stock absorbs some of it through flexing.

I am looking for a rifle that I can shoot ambidextrously due to an eye sight problem in my right eye, which is my shooting eye. I started reading about the Blaser R93 and its versatility and caliber choices. Could I get some opinions from those who have shot these rifles? Are they worth the money? I'm going to Africa in May and was going to possibly pick one up in .338 Win Mag, .300 Win Mag or .300 Win Short Mag initially. One concern was the recoil pad or should I say lack of recoil pad for these calibers. Does the factory recoil reducer work for this gun? This rifle could keep me hunting. Thanks.

I have Blaser R93's and several barrels.[Including a 28ga. bbl]. I have shot them a fair amount. I have not had one single problem. They come appart and go back together with no change of zero. The scope mounts, American and the European QD go on and off with no change of zero.
I have shot a friends 416 Remington Mag with the recoil reducer, and the rifle is not uncomfortable to shoot.
A friend has a recoil reducer in her rifle a 308 Win. Shooting it side by side with my 308 I can tell a difference.
I have one barrel in 300 Win Mag with Magna-Port. It kicks less than my 308 Win bbl and does not seem that much louder than a non Magna-Port bbl. It is not painful to shoot without ear protection like the typical muzzle break.
Several of my friends have Blaser R-93's and they all feel the same way I do.
The bottom line is I highly recommend it.

They are tough to beat. I agree with .450 NE No 2. I have 8 of them in total that I use all the time, even clients that are unaccustom to the rifle find it very accurate and easy to use. I have hunted and shot with the rifle system for 8 years and never had a problem. You will hear alot of pros and cons on the system. I am a great fan of the Blaser product and used them for many years before we became a retailer of their line

I have 3 of these rifles and they are a joy to shoot I really like the trigger on these guns all in all there a fine weapon the only problem that ive experienced with them was with my 300 Ultra the barrel has eroded extremely fast my loads they are a little on the hot side BUT after only roughly a little over a 100 rounds on my SECOND barrel I borescoped it and found the lands were either gone or very eroded. So Im ordering a 338 WinMag barrel and keep the loads moderate. Other than that I love'um.

UltraMag,

Are you using the magnum bolt head or the ultramag bolt head with your ultramag barrel? I wondered what the difference is between them. On the Blaser website they list the caliber classification as:

Magnum-Calibers
Barrel length 65cm (25.6")
Bolt Head: MA
7 mm Rem.Mag.
.300 Win.Mag.
.300 Weath.Mag.
.300 WSM
.338 Win.Mag.
.375 H&H Mag.

Ultra Magnum
Barrel length 65cm (25.6")
Bolt Head: UM
7 mm STW
.300 Rem. Ultra Mag.

This seems odd, since the 7mm STW should work with the same bolt head as the 300 WBY, etc. Conversely the 300 WSM should work with the same bolt head as the 300 UltraMag, etc. In actuallity they should all work with the same bolt head, so I wonder what the difference is between the two bolt heads.

Dthfrmbv ,

I have a couple of Blaser R93's, and have used them extensively. My rifles and barrels in various calibers have been very accurate and reliable.

I have used a standard weight 375 H&H barrel on my primary African hunting rifle for the last few years (the synthetic stock model), and have taken buffalo and eland plus numerous other species down to Kirk's DikDik with it. The buffalo in my signature photo was taken with this rifle.
