Anyone using this combination with any bullet weights? If so what type of results did you get? Appreciate the input, good shooting to all.

cheers

Yes, I have a short barreled (19.5") 35 Whelan on a mauser action. Several years ago I developed 250 gr loads and tried several powders. I finally settled on W748, and still use it. This was mostly because accuracy was excellent, and muzzel flash less. It's been several years ago, so I'm going off memory. I found several acceptable powders, but stuck with 748.

Never got around to using W748 when I started loading for my Whelen..but I did use H335, Imr4895 and Imr4064. While all three powders did show good accuracy, I got my best accuracy and velocity combination with Imr4064 using both 250gr Hornady spitzers and 225gr Sierra boat tails.. Velocity on the 250s is 2475fps and the 225s run at 2680...those velocities were the most accurate in my rifle. Both loads are below max in my rifle..

Good luck on your load developement..let us know how it turns out...I may need to try another powder... Big Grin

I personally believe that after much experimentation, that Reloader 15 is my favorite powder with 225 and 250 grain bullets. Others which have proven very good as well are IMR 4320, IMR 4064, and Varget.

For 200 grain bullets and lower I like IMR 3031. I also use it for small game loads with .357 pistol bullets and plinking.

For 275 grain and heavier, I have used IMR 4350 for good accuracy, but I haven't recieved the velocity I want there, requires further work.

The only ball powder I have tried was H414 but it proved too slow for my liking with 225 grain bullets. Maybe with the heavier bullets this powder would be nice.

You said it 308 my car therometer showed 103 today in westbury ny. By the way i also loaded up some H380-Varget-and some RL-15. As far as the 748 goes i am using new remington brass ,cci-200 primers and hornady 250 grain SP &RN bullets. Charge weights of 56.0--57.0--and 58.0 will be tested for pressure, feeding, accuracy, and velocity, if i can get my chrony back from my friend. I will be using a remington model 750 with Leupold vari-x II 2x7
