I had Shawn Carlock at Defensive Edge build me a 338 Laupa with a 30" ABS Carbon Wraped barrel. The rifle was built around the 325 grain Wildcat rebated boat tail bullet as an extreme range rifle. It is built on a Rem 700 action and housed in a Sendero stock topped with a Nightforce 5.5X22X50 scope. Shawn shot the rifle today with the first load that he ever put together with the 325 grain Wildcat bullet and shot a .8" three shot group at 300 yads.... That's .255 MOA without working a load for the rifle..... To say that I am pleased is an understatement... We are still waiting on the Detachable box magazine that will allow a 3.9" loaded lenght, when it arrives and is installed he will ship it to me ..........Can't wait.........

You should be pleased, that three shot group would make darn near anyone happy. Sounds like your 'smith done you a good job.

I am curious as to know what kind of velocity you might be getting from that 325 grain wildcat?

Also you mention a detachable box magazine, how many rounds will the it hold?

Thanks

Did they wrap the carbon around a Mike Rock barrel?

When it's time to replace the barrel on my Sako 338 Lapua Magnum I think I'll have that done. Should make that looooong tube a little easier to maneuver around.

Maxbear,Shawndidn't chrono the load.He is going to chrono it when he test fires it again after the magazine is fitted. I am not sure of the capacity of the detachable box magazine. They are still in the proto type stage and will be geting the first ones shipped... dancing

SAFSRIKID, you can contact Shawn at from the info on his web site.Great guy to deal with... beer

lawndart, Yes it is a Mike Rock barrel. The ABS carbon wrapped barrel dissapates heat extremely well.A friend used a Thermal imaging Camera to show the haet disapation abilities of the carbon wrap on his barrel and it was amazing. The rifle even with the longer tube will wiegh and balance very close to the same as the Rem. Sendaro..... thumb

what's the recoil like ?

I see a tiny brake. My TRG-42 has a Blaser massive brake, and I still feel kicked, compared to my gentle 300WSM.... hammering

Good shooting!
