I have been out of hunting for a while and not kept up on what is in. When I used to trophy hunt I used a pair of Zeiss 8x30's and the only problem I ever had was not getting the 10x's. They are still the best that I own and in good shape after 23 years.

What is a good pair of Binoculars for your kids. I have one that is 12 and one that is 18. To be Used hunting in South Texas, Hill country, and general view at ball games as such. Preferably closer to 100$ that 200$ but not over in a 7 to 10 power that can be worn while hunting.

Thanks,

Jim

A good roof prism for kids, so they can have binoculars that look like what "big people" use and still have binoculars that work well would be either the Minolta Activa D WP-Sport or Olympus Magellan EWXP I.

Minolta now has a waterproof, phase-corrected, fully multicoated roof prism binoculars called the Activa D WP-Sport 8x42mm which can be had for $155.

Olympus has had the Magellan EXWP I out for some time, the 8x42mm can be had for $150 after a $40 rebate.

Center focusing binoculars are a pain in the posterior to focus and keep focused, especially for a beginner (and more subject to damage, water leakage, etc.), so I would recommend a tough, lightweight individual focus binocular. Unfortunately, the I.F.'s are hard to find. Steiner's Military Marine and Safari models might be found in your price range. Steiner optics in these lines are not the very best available, but they're orders of magnitude better than the discount store Asian optics. I would stick to 8x or less for general usage.
