Yeah two canoes sunk one on that comment. Some of the most accurate rifles I have owned have been 270's. I own two right now and they both shoot better than Moa and one commonly puts 3 touching in tight little triangles. I wonder what DA started that rumor and why anyone would pick up that dud routine. It would be interesting to see the data that was used to arrive at that conclusion.

olarmy: Well I second that request. Would that empirical data be interesting to look over.

How accurate the .270 is should be a different thread... I'll stick with the 7mm Rem.Mag. recommendation in this Topic, though. It is just a nice blend of ballistics and satisfying recoil. ____________________________________________ Did I mention, "I REALLY LIKE GUNS"? i have the 7mm rem mag in a mdl 700, 7mm rem ultra mag in 700 sendero, and the .300 win in the t/c encore. i love each, but in your situation i would take the encore. very light, very accurate, but not everybody cares for that style weapon. i have heard excellent things about the kimber montana, and you might want to consider looking at that new browning a-bolt Ti. i've never shot one, but from what i have read you can't get much lighter, and it meets the stainless/synthetic request 100%. both rifles are on my to do list for this upcoming year. recoil between the 7mm and 300 is negligible in my opinion, the RUM being the hardest hitting of the three.

I own a kimber montana and I wouldnt reccomend them. the barrels are shockers, very roughly made and ive looked down a few. talked to a guy who does alot of reloading for people (he does alot of bench rest shooting and does well) and he said he has never been able to get a kimber to shoot well. go with the remington titanium in 7mm saum.

7mm Rem Mag with 130gr GSCHV bullets - BC of 0.477 and 3400fps ensures a flat trajectory and very little wind drift problems over longer distances. Follow this link for more detailed information. OWLS My Africa, with which I will never be able to live without!

On the Remington Ti you can only hold two cartridges in the magazine for the shortmags. That seems to be a problem for many people. Adding a floorplate you can get three in the magazine. There are also many aftermarket parts for a 700 so you can configure it however you want. It also has a heavier barrel profile than the Kimber. Which is something I like. The saum are not popular but there is nothing wrong with their performance. The 7saum holds a grain or two more than the 280AI, which is a very popular wildcat. And it does it in a short action. If you are worried about ammo availiblity than get a standard cartridge.

You'd do well to look at the tikka lite in stainless. Short mag or standard mag. They flat out shoot too for half the money you'd have in a rem Ti or a montana. Tahr are very tuff animals to bring down you might do well with a 300. Now i own about all the 7's so this is not a biased opinion. Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time.
