Bigcountry, Some cartridges do produce best results at the top end. Some of it depends on the powder. RL-22 is designed to produce optimum results at top pressures. I've gottin best accuracy with it in both 300 Win Mag, 300 Ultra-Mag, 270 WSM, 300WSM, 270 Winchester and others with Max loads. I had a Sako Delux M-75 that shot sub 1" groups at 200yds with 180gr bullets at 3350 to 3375. Stubbles not the only one to acheive these results. The reason that a lot of reloaders may seem to get best results with top loads is because I for one will continue to experiment with different bullets and powders until I find one that will work well at top velocities.............DJ

Somebody, once upon a time made the comment, "Only accurate rifles are interesting"

Quote: Exactly. If I have a rifle that simply will not produce good accuracy at near maximum velocity it gets sold or rebarreled. There is no point shooting a 300ultramag at 300win mag velocities. If I want 300win mag velocities,I will shoot a 300win mag.I don't claim ridiculous velocities or group sizes. Both 1/2" groups and 3340fps are within reason for 180gr bullets out of the 300ultramag with quality rifles and careful load development.
