I would really like to have a 300 H & H. Preferably a bolt gun, but a single shot might work as well. Any leads on current production guns in this round? What would be an alternate solution for a rechambering or rebarreling of something else out there? Looking at the end product having barrel band, express sights, three stage safety, wood stock. I have never built up or changed a current rifle to a new configuration so all help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

i got an idea - cabellas in owatonna has the prettiest new hi wall from ballard in 300 H&H for only 8000. You could buy it and then when you'd rather have a bolt, sell it to me for half price so i could afford it

I went with a M70 and had it rebarreled to a .300 H&H It's worked great for about 7 years now.

Anther option and I've always' thought this would be soo nice would be to buy a Ruger 1A (light sporter) in .30-06 and have it rechambered to .300 H&H. I don't think it would be a huge under taking

I know this is a silly answer, but why not just order one from CZ?

Even worse, why not just use a .300 Win Mag? More ammo out there, cheaper to shoot, shoots really well and hard.

Rich,

Must admit this is an option I am considering. Haven't heard back from you on the .404, any interest?

Here's another option

When you price the CZ you'll understand.

How about re-barreling a 7mm Mag to 300 Ruger?

i picked up a gorgeous 300 H&H in a supergrade m70 a couple months ago for $1400...its got a griffin & howe quick detach side mount scope on it with a lyman alaskan.... serial number range puts it about 1949....barrel is marked .300 mag, winchester changed that to .300 h&h in 1951 (i think)....this rifle has alaska or africa plains game written all over it...these rifles are out there, just gotta find them... for me, it was love at first sight!!!!...

I just last week bought a 1951 vintage Model 70 in 300 H&H. It needs a rear sight but I am kind of excited about getting to shoot it. I got it to complement my M-70 .375 H&H to take as a pair to Africa when I go again.

If Larry has to explain it, you wouldn't understand.

There is a brand new Ruger 1-H in .300 H&H sitting on the rack in my local gunshop. It's one of their current five gun set of so-called African rifles. I bought the .450-400 NE of the set. I believe there is a 7x57mm and .470 yet to come.

Larry, I assume you already know the attributes of both 300 WM and 300 H&H. If you have to explain why you want the H&H over the WM, then most wouldn't understand the intangible benefits of owning a classic cartridge over one that is more readily available and rather mundane in comparison. it's the same thing as owning a Harley-Davidson instead of a honda goldwing. My plan is to get one from CZ by fall or early winter.

Rem M-700 magnums (7mm rem mag etc) will handle the .300 H&H....but rebarreling is in order!

I see M-721s in .300 H&H on occasion....not a bad rifle....I sure like mine!~ Cabela's in Syndey had one the other day!

Yes Dr., spoken like a true intangible benefits lover. I also have a 375 H & H instead of a .375 Ruger, and a 9.3 X 62, 9.3 X 74R and on and on. Maybe the same applies to these choices as well, huh?

Well, my thinking was to boiling it down to not buying a rifle at all and just buying your meat at the grocery store. Big Grin

Here is the one I mentioned above. Just for inspiration. 300 H&H on a M70 Classic. It started life as a 7Mag
