Looks like enough replies, I did not even bother reading them. I know a lot of knowledgable guys responded, so what can I add? If someone asked me and did not reload, I'd recommend the 270. However as a handloader, my two 270s collect dust sitting in the cabinet. Cheers and Good shooting seafire

Fred, I can't argue with your logic about the 7mm bullet selection. Unfortunately the biggest failure I've ever had deer hunting came from a 7X57 and I wish I'd taken more time to research the problem. In a nutshell, I shot a spike at about 50 yds one foggy morning. I was hunting for meat and not horns at the time. The 7 knocked him flat and I thought it was over but as I walked up on him, he got back to his feet and staggered around in a circle and fell back down. I thought well NOW it's over. But as I got to the deer he started trying to get up again.! I put him out of his misery with my trusty hunting knife and later when I dressed him I could not find a bullet hole anywhere or a mark on him?????????? But again, I didn't take time for a thorough autopsy. I wasn't trying to get cute with the shot or anything. It was just a simple shoulder shot and there shouldn't have been any doubt about things. I don't hold this against the 7x57 at all. It was clearly some sort of bullet failure. I figure it went thru the deer like a ice pick. But things like that really trouble me. I wouldn't shun any cartridge Jimmy has selected here. They are all good choices.
