I had been interested in the LAW Professional rifle and saw on the website they have stopped production of it. Replacing with one called CAPRA which is about another $1200 higher. Anyone know why they stopped making the Professional model??

That is a surprise ! I have two, a 28 Nosler and a 35 Whelen. Both are superb rifles, super accurate and flawless in function..

If I had my guess, their margins are too small on the professional, and rather than simply raising the price, they've changed the stock color and name to fool everyone into thinking their making a new and better rifle. I'm not implying that the "Proffessional" isn't a damn good rifle. I hear they are generally pretty awesome. Matt FISH!! I can only speak for the two that I have and they are excellent in every respect. Plus any correspondence I had with the company was replied to promptly and that is a big thing for me. I'm hoping to be able to get out hunting this Fall and maybe one or both rifles will put some meat in the freezer...

The only thing I'm curious about with my 35 Whelen is the twist rate, I think it is 1/12" but I can't be sure. Does anyone know what twist LAW used in the Whelen ?

I have been waiting for over a week to a reply on a simple question. I sent the question to them both on their web site and on their Facebook page. So far, nothing. Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.

I had sent an email on LAW's website and had answers within the day. The next day a person called and left a vm confirming the Professional being dropped. The message indicated they were making refinements based on three years of customer input. Still not sure where the large price increase is coming from. Tight margins may be a good guess.

According to their website, LAW is now selling their 704 actions in both stripped and complete versions, with in-between options. A stripped receiver with no trigger and a 2 position safety is $899, whereas a complete receiver with a 3 position safety and a Timney trigger costs $1349 (They offer both a 2 or 3 position safety at different prices.). The stripped actions come unassembled, but all the parts are there. My reason for pointing this out, is to say that there is a NIB LAW "Closer" in 308 currently for sale on G-broker for $50 less than a complete action, and the "Proffesional" can be had for only a couple hundred bucks more than the actions. If I had the dough I'd buy that 308 in heartbeat. Matt FISH!! Great. Maybe I will hear back from them in the next month or two. Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.

Not surprised. LAW has had significant quality problems with their rifles. I am intimately familiar with at least two examples which were returned to the factory, never to return. Refunds were issued in both cases after more than 8 months of no action, stalling and plain bullshit. A shame. They looked great but minute-of-basketball accuracy issues were never resolved.

I thought Mark Bansner (super accurate custom gun builder fame) was one of the principals and manager of the gun building process for LAW? That does not sound like anything Mark would EVER turn out.
