While the rest of the world were busy, the Swedes at Husqvarna made nice civilian hunting rifles. Mine is stamped 1942, built on a Swedish M38 Mauser action, and chambered in 9,3x57. The stock now has a crack in the tang area, and it was never very comfortable anyway, with its narrow comb. So instead of gluing and bolting the stock, I am thinking of a new one. From there I am indicisive for now. Should I scope the rifle to add usefulness, or stay with open sights and keep it for the few occations I am ok with that? And should I keep the chambering, or ream to x62? Charlie's listening!

Putting the scope on would aid greatly in longer shooting. The 9.3 X 62 may add something to the performance but is the cost of little gain worth it? A propely throated 9.3 X 57 is a great large game rifle. JMHO roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! I'd restock it and add a scope. Now, I really like my 9,3x62, but would recommend keeping the 9,3x57 until a barrel change is warranted unless there's a reason (like throat erosion) to ream it. ________ Ray

Your advice is appreciated. Where should I look for an inexpensive wooden stock? Also, does anybody make sliding type safeties for M96/M38s that lock the bolt/firing pin? I am somewhat distrustful to safeties that only work as trigger brakes, and prefer Sako-style safeties over M70s. Charlie's listening!
