I just got off the phone with Sierra and was advised that the 338 215gn Game King is designed with the thickest jacket they put on a bullet to make it an Elk bullet. The tech told me it will not expand at 2400 to 2500 fps, which is the area where the 338 Fed. runs. I told the tech Sierra wasn't really known for tough bullets but he assured me it would not expand as it was designed to be hot rodded out of a 338 Win Mag. Has anyone actually used this bullet on game and how did it work ? I was getting ready to sit down and start load development today but now I may need some different bullets..........................JJ " venator ferae bestiae et aquae vitae "

thats odd. isnt that about what the 338 win is gonna be doing around after 80-100 yards? so a 338 win mag shooting that bullet wont expand in an elk at 100 yards?

I have no experience with that bullet, since I don't like anything in the Sierra line for hunting, but I will go out on a limb and say that I don't believe that statement for a minute. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Sierra might not be NOTED for tough bullets, but some of their bullets I've used were tough as hell! Specifically, their .308", 165-grain HPBT and their 7mm 175-grain PSPBT. If a Sierra tech told b=me that a particular bullet would not expand at the velocities I was planning to shoot them at, I would tend to believe him. I think if you used some Nosler Partitions in that rifle, they would work at your velocities, as these bullets are designed for the front part to expand at very low velocities..... Well guys, you are right, after some research I agree. I guess the only to tell for sure is to go and twist one of them Russian Boars out of the TN foothills and see for myself. And I get to blame the required hunt on you guys ..............JJ " venator ferae bestiae et aquae vitae "

jj load some of those 215's anyway and test them at different ranges for expansion weight retension etc . prove it to your-self one way or the other, speers 200 grain hot -core spitzer should be on your short list with that 210 partition.talked to sierra techs enough my-self their great people peroid!!! you will probaly have to limit you range hunting to match your bullets impact energy. cross reference bullet drops with factory info or look up bullet energys etc in a good re-loading manual. regards

Last year I shot 6 deer with a Sako in 338 federal 200 gr. Hornady spire points poked nice size clean holes in large whitetails ranges from 30yds to 242yds I would not be afraid to shoot elk to 300yds with my load I have bought some 210 Swift Scirroccos and a box of 200 gr Kodiaks to play with this year.

I know I had separation failures at the 200 yd backstop from my former 338/06 so chose not to use them, never would have thought them to be too hard to expand. 2790 was MV, don't have tables in front of me........surely impact fps was 2400 or so. Yes, media was ..... dirt.
