I want to buy either one of these in 300 Win Mag ,the Kimber i have heard seem to have quality control issues, but is supposedly a better quality rifle ? from what i have read and despite all the blurb about match grade barrels ,chambers etc ,arent that accurate, from owners points of view. The winchester i havent heard anything about yet.Im leaning towards the Kimber ,but i dont want to have to send the bloody thing back if it has problems .Or i wish i had bought the ''other one ''Thanks for any advice

I did have to send my rifle back, but I had it back in a week. Everybody told me it couldve happened to any rifle. The rifle looks great, feels great, mounts great, shoots as accuarate as can be, and the recoil is very manageable. My bet would be for the kimber. W.

I wouldn't enjoy shooting a 300 WSM in a rifle as light as the Kimbers. Good hunting, Andy ----------------------------- Thomas Jefferson: “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

Kimber has had my rifle Since December, still waiting to get it back. At under 6 lbs., it will really kick.

I sent my Kimber Montana back. It "was" a 270 wsm. It had serious accuracy problems. Kimber did not help me at all or resolve the problem. I will never own another. Good luck. NRA Patron member

tankhunter, I think you have the scoop, the Kimbers are simply hit or miss on quality. The new Wins have been getting great reviews. Do a search here, but basically, the folks that have em are liking them. I would go the Win route in a second, especially if you can inspect it pretty closely before taking delivery. Another option, that you might need to swap the trigger out on however; is the Ruger Hawkeye. For the price you can add a trigger and be ahead of the game vs a Kimber, I am not familiar off the top of my head with the Win pricing. Good luck!

What's up with Kimber? I'm hearing all kinds of issues with the 84. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

I too had issues with my Kimber. Don't own it anymore, but they are so pretty, they keep tempting me at the gun store. If Kimber would ever get their act together they could make a killing. Is the stainless/synthetic Winchester even available yet. I've yet see any, the gun shop here tells me they won't be available till later this year. Winchester does come off a bit ambitious with their catalog. They added a bunch of new model 70's to the ones they haven't been able to produce from 2008. Can't wait to see the 2010 catalog, or to buy the stainless mod 70 I've had on order forever.

I have a Kimber in 30-06. While not my favorite caliber it is a good looking rifle and mine shoots anything I put thru it quite well. I guess I got lucky on the accuracy.

I had a Kimber Montana in .338 WM. It was mediocre as far as accuracy goes, but, it was plain awfull in the feeding department. Chet
