This gun appears to have been assembled from parts. Early 20’s Oberndorf 30-06 action. It has the long magazine box and notch in the back of the front ring to allow stripper clip loading of long rounds. I believe the barrel may have been shortened a little at the breach end, as it is not quite 23” long. The muzzle diameter is a little thinner than my two 9.3x62 Type A’s. Type M bolt handle has been renumbered to the action with proof marks removed. I think the barrel has been renumbered as well. Very light and handy. Repro (I think) Mauser butt plate. The stock is very light. I’m no wood expert, but given the light weight and tiger stripes, I think it may be claro or a rather light piece of black.

After rereading my last post on this thread, I decided to delete it. I was an ass in saying what I said, and I apologize to the parties which I made assumptions about. One should not air ones suspicions here or anywhere else, but allow what will or won’t happen come to pass before passing judgement. While no one has mentioned one word to me about my comments, I realize it was childish and real a dick move. I have no excuse, and can only apologize.

It takes a proper Man to admit he has erred AND to acknowledge it.

I did not see your post but commend you on your character in knowing you over-stepped the line and coming on here to publically acknowledge it and take it back.
Any one can and does make mistakes.

Many on here could learn from your example.

I do not know you but I do tip my hat to you Sir.

Good health and continued good hunting and shooting.

No idea what was said. But, I do know Matt and know that any such comments would be very out of character for him. We all have our bad days, still, it speaks to your character to own up to and apologize for your misdeeds. tu2

Nice rifle! Serial is 299 off of my Oberndorf 30-06.

The problem is everyone sees a rifle in a different light. I see that gun as a simi custom type B 9.3x62 and a damn nice one..Guess that's the best thing about a 3 day inspection..you picked this gun apart and without basis IMO..and I think its a little better than simi custom.

That said I hope the seller took your apology to heart, it was well given and you have my respect..just not my agreement on the gun but like I said we all see a gun in a different light.

Thanks Ray, but my apology had nothing to do with the seller of this gun. Other than the comb being too high for me to comfortably use the open sights and the spoon handle having too little stock clearance, I really like this rifle. The receiver is drilled and tapped, so a low mounted fixed 2.5x or 4x may be in this rifles future.

For letting me see that rifle, you could call me anything up to and including a Buckeye.

Thank you all around.

A rasp, sandpaper and some finish matching would cure that high comb...I like low comb rifles for iron sights and I have absolutely no problema with shooting low combs with a scope..works quite well for me, I grew up shooting low power scopes and low comb pre war and pre 64 Winchester mod. 70s..I am blessed there.
