Am I correct that R22 is the best option to those of us who can’t obtain European powders?
Anyone tried H1000?

It’s been a few years, but when I owned a Merkel double rifle in 8x75RS, I loaded using RL22.

Thanks Mdstewart
Any chance you could dig up your load data?

Sorry, I don’t recall the exact data. I sold the rifle to Biebs here on AR, and he then sold it to a gentleman in Texas who should have the data as well as loaded rounds. Send Biebs a PM. Thanks.

Most of those are regulated for 196gr bullets. Norma 203B is very close to RL15. 196gr Norma Oryx shows 43.0 to 44.8 gr max for Norma 203B (2333fps).

196gr Norma Vulkan shows 42.4 to 44.6 gr.

196gr Norma Alaska shows 43.0 to 45.1 gr.

200gr Swift A frame shows 42.1gr to 44.4gr.

200gr Nosler Partition shows 41.5gr to 43.7gr.

These are all from the Norma manual. Hope this helps.

There was the question for the 8x75Rs and not for the 8x57IRS.
I load the 8x75RS with R 905, nearly identical to R 22 - both are Bofors-Powders.
With 196 - 200grs Bullets I use 70grs R 905 to reach 2800fps!

This is indeed about the 8x75RS not 8x57IRS

Since posting I’ve had the chance to have a friend run a whole lot of powder combinations through Quickload for me and I’m glad I did as one of the few articles on this round lists a dangerous overload according to QL

https://jww.de/wp-content/uplo...aden_jww_02_0205.pdf

73g of R22 should be fine with a 200g not a 220g

Unfortunately to get a 200g moving at 2700 with H1000/2217 would require a 115% fill so I’ll be running 2213 instead.

MF, what bullet have you found best in your 8x75RS? I have some 200g NABs, as well as Woodleigh 196g RNs, and 200 and 220g PPs. I’m thinking it’s 200g PP designed for the WSM should hold up well

I used the 196grs Woodleigh Weldcore and the 196grs Norma Oryx
