Need!? Need!? Who said anything about need? It's all about "want"!

Oh my goodness, somebody broke out the "need" word in a hobby. Must be out of thier minds over in Europe.

COOL - If we honestly add up all your requirements, I think we are looking at the 30/06.

Most of the cartridges named are good all around rifles with reasonable bbl life. But if you prefer 30 - 35...there's really only the 06 IMHO.
You won't get any .35 that will shoot with the 06 and still keep efficiency, barrel life and recoil to anything like the level possible with 06.

Maybe this is why the 30/06 is the legend it is today. A lot of fellows are tired of hearing about the 06....but think about it this way. If there were ANYTHING out there that could do what the 06 does so easily and efficiently, we wouldn't have the 06 around.

This cartridge is a legend for some good reasons and apparently one that isn't going to go away.
