Found 3 boxes of these in my junk...Thinking since I have a bunck of .338 brass that I would load some of these up to about 2300-2400 FPS and try them on Whitetail in Texas this Nov.

Anyone got any loads that will get me there..The books don't offer much on these old Win. bullets.

Hi Ray,
I have used those 33 Win.F.N. bullets in a 338 Win. Mag. to practice on hogs on a cull hunt. Can't recall the exact charge wt. of IMR 4895. But the estimated velocity was around 2300-2400 fps. Those bullets are quite explosive at that velocity and really tear up the porkers. All shooting was done under 100 yds.

A friend loads them in his 338 RCM with H4895 at about 2100 fps, as his sitka deer load.

If I loaded them, I would shoot for 1800 to 2000 fps, and try to find a load with SR4759.

The 338WM, IME, isn't real friendly with reduced loads, with normal powders. The one exception I can think of is H4895, but I haven't tried it yet in that cartridge.

I have used 38 to 40 gr. AA5744 to do that in a 24" barrel. Also tried 54 gr. of 4064 and that worked super also, vel. was about 2450 with the 4064. IMR version.

+1 on AA5744.
It is marvelous for this very purpose! Very close velocitiy spreads and excellent accuracy.
You could easily get a 2200fps load that will shoot very will in a .338 Win Mag

TJ,
I have a lot of IMR-4064 on hand..That 54 grs. of IMR-4064 sounds like the right load for me..Does it fill the case pretty well or should I use a filler with it..The bullets should be pretty explosive at 2450 FPS and would be fun to hunt coyotes with.

At an OAL of 3.34 the fill would be around 75% if you seated the bullet in to give a full caliber your oal would be around 3.15 and fill 79%. I've never loaded this light a 4064 load so have no comment of the filler.

As usual just my $.02

I have a reloading book that calls for 46 grs. of IMR-4064 for 2000 FPS so 54 should be better than that..I almost as afraid of reduced loads as I am of hot maximum loads! Hmmmmmm?

popcornYou might find your answer with about 35 grains of SR4759. You can work up from there, or not. beerroger
