I have a Model 7 SS in 7-08 with the 3-9 Compact Leupy and it is a great setup. I've mounted and used a 3.5-10X on it once, and it was just too big for the gun.
As posted, don't over scope the rifle. You not only harm the nimbleness of the handy little rifle, it also looks like shit..... or something from "Men in Black".

Hey Tom, If you are only going to Hunt during broad daylight, then any of the weenie scopes will do fine. Wellll, if they have enough power to tell a Nubbin from a Doe. And the weenie's will help hold the total weight down.
On the other hand, if you plan on Hunting when it is lightly Sprinkling or Raining, when there is a HEAVY Overcast or during the Prime Time Twilight Periods at each end of the day(where legal) then you will have to pass on a lot of shots with a weenie scope. Those same situations could easily be Hunted(and Shot), with a scope having a lot ofPower and a HUGE(at least 50mm) Objective.
I used HEAVY Duplex Reticles for a lot of years because they were better than anything else available at the time. Now, I prefer the Illuminated Models " IF " they are not too bright on the lowest setting.
If you decide you don't like what your first pick is, it is easy enough to change later on. Best of luck with your choice.

With all the replies of the VX 3 in 2.5-8x36mm I'm now considering that one also the specs for the ultralight 3-9x33 is length 11.0 weight 8.8 specs for VX3 2.5-8x36 is length 11.4 weight 11.4 so I just dont know which one to get also the price is $400.00 for VX3 $350.00 for ultralight for the $50.00 differnce I think its worth getting the VX3 I like the adjustment knobs (windage and elevation) alot better

I like small scopes.
I have similar thoughts. What is the caliber and is there any particular hunting planned for it? I'd want a 223/22-250 class to have a higher top end than a 257 roberts-ish deer rifle.
Otherwise, for a compact gun like that something with 1-2 power on the low end and 5-8 on the high end would be a nice match.

The only thing I don't like about the compact scopes are the small objective which interprets in to less light transmission. I've come to like the Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36. They are light, give you all the magnification you can use and do pretty great for an american made scope. They aren't Swarovski, Kahles or Zeiss Diavari's s but I was thinking in a moderate price range.

Not sure what you are going to use the rifle for but you should take a good look at the Leupold VX-3 2.8-8x36mm. These scope are very bright and offer plenty of magnification for hunting out to 500 yds.

2.5x8 x36 all the way. Does most all you could ask very well and is a good fit for that gun. Have one on my daughters Mod. 7 .260 with extra low mounts - perfect.

It seems rather strange to me to select (or offer advice on) a scope for a rifle based solely on the model, without knowing or considering the cartridge and / or intended uses. If you don't find it too incovenient, personally I would start off with the scope you already have and see how it shoots. Then depending on how that goes, you may decide to leave that scope on it, or to get another.
I think most folks were concerned with the aestetics of the overall package. And too, most folks know or are learning that you don't need a scope capable of seeing the far side of the moon in order to hunt and kill stuff.
