Shot my first Red Stag this Sunday, 19:45, at 2000 m height and 180 m distance. A "Steinhirsch", meaning one of that rare breed, which are over the tree border most of the year. 3 year old 8 pointer. Was not allowed anything better, but I am totally happy! First shot was bad ( that was me, dont know why, 50 cm to the left, through the belly, no bone touched. Either he did make step, or the breeze or stock slipped a little to the right, maybe all three together ). Stag hardly moved, went some slooow steps, turned around, at which point I shot him in the shoulder, which settled things. I was very miserable for that bad shot, dont know why I did so bad. The guide said earlier they shoot stags with .243, too. Later he said, with a shot like mine, the Hirsch would have gone without any sign of being hit. Thats the reason i brought the 9.3. The Partition opened up even on the flesh shot, exit wound some 4". Of course both bullets went through. Extremely accurate with Lapua 286 grs Mega ( blunt ), Winchester Euro line ( Norma loaded ) 286 grs Nosler Partition, which I used at that hunt. Only thing the 9.3 cant do: shoot flat! At 300 m my load would be ~ 50 cm deep. CZ 550 Medium, full stocked, old Kahles 8x56 with non centered reticle, trigger adjusted by myself. At the moment I use this rifle with 8x56 scope and my Win 70 Super Grade CRF in 06 with Swaro 1,25-4x for driven hunts. May exchange that someday, wont sell either gun!!! Hermann

I retired both my .338 win mag and my .375 HH in favor of a Mauser 9.3 x 62 a couple of years ago and I have not looked back.

Hallo Alf, seems there is indeed a great new intrest in the 9.3x62, I remember guys telling me I am crasy for buying a 9.3x62, At that time the only ammo I could find was Normaa and RWS, Everybody said it was to big, and it was obselete, the other day I was in at a gunshot in Otjiwarongo Namibia and the guy told me the 9.3x62 is getting well know, they even started loading ammo for it I bought the last box, they are 200 grain bullets kind of like Goodnell but with a cutting shoulder, I don't know the velocity still waiting for my gun to get back then I Will test it. Kudu It seems you are getting about the same I was getting, according to The relaoding manual you are suppose to get 2400 with 55.5 and yuu are getting about the same as with me with 52, don't know what to make of it, have not been able to talk to anybody who reloaded for the 9.3 with local S335. You are getting decent velocity with the 300 grain bullets, I have some 300 grain Barnes I want to test so you are giving me an idea where my start load should be, I think I will start at about 46 grain should be safe, I don't know what Otto Of OPM used but the got decent groups with the Barnes X in 286 grain, strange but both SAko And S&B load the 250 grain bullet in the 9.3 and their velocity is very low, kind of like your, maybe they just like it like that, buyt at about 2350 they give great penetration, like I said before I have never recoverd a bullet out of 3 boxes I bought, can't remember how many animals I have shot with it but it was a few. It has been a while since I bought PMP in 9.3, when they started I 8 boxes, from then on I used some reloads but I had some SAko's, OPM's, Lapau, RWS and Norma's left, so I used them, they are pretty much up, so will need to start reloading, Maybe in other rifles like yours they gave problems hence the crimping, seems ok in my gun cheers to all Flip

I have shot more than a few cape buffalo with the 9.3x62 with the 300 gr. Swift, the 320 gr. Woodleighs soft and solids, GS flat nose solids, and the 286 gr. Noslers...As far as I can tell it about like shooting them with a 375 H&H. I have used the 9.3x62 on all manor of game both here and abroad, I have been its flag barrier for many a year, it just works. I wouldn't retire my 375 or 338 for a 9.3x62 but for ranges up to about 200 yards it certainly is their equal I suspect...I have one of each because I can't decide which one I like the best, oh well that works for me...
