Winchester introduced the Mod. 70 "Stainless Classic" in 1992. I have one, and Winchester provides no records for production dates. Inside the mag plate, under the spring there's a number "93." You suppose that's the date of production?

I never noticed that on mine, just got a .300WM and an extra sts Classic .338WM tube, so, am having it installed at 22" oal and a Micky Fwt. style handle put on. Then, Brockman-Talleys and a 4x Leupie with a HD and this is my "beater" to leave in trucks and carry on backpacks. I am glad to see that Winchester has re-introduced this excellent hunting rifle, but, wish they had kept the "old" trigger as I do not like enclosed triggers in wet conditions. When, I get my rifle back, I will look to see if it has the number.

Not sure about "beater" but this is my scoped "go to" rifle in open country. Another would be the Marlin 1895 in 44 mag. I suppose the "beater" is the AK.

I took a look on my Stainles Classic in .338 Win. Mag. Not sure but there is the letter "N" centered over what looks like "S93" or "S98". The floorplate looks like a casting that is a bit rough on the inside. I'm thinking that's just a part number but I could be wrong. Paul B.

Actually the Model 70 Stainless Classic was introduced in 1994. There was a pushfeed stainless model introduced in 1992, which was discontinued when the Classic action version was introduced. If you post your serial number, with the last three digits as "X's", I might be able to give an edumacated guess as to when it was manufactured.
