Where are you guys getting your Kimbers? Are you ordering them somewhere that has a inventory and Good prices? Ive only seen one at a sportsmans warehouse , and they only had one not the caliber i wanted. Hate to pay to order one and not be happy with the wood. Whats a good price on the Classic 8400 ? Sportsmans Warehouse wanted I think $800. But Ive seen them for way more, advertised.

GSP7, Your question is valid. Here in CT there are many Kimber "Master Dealers" but few stock the models with wood stocks. The problem is the one you mention and the factory does not want them back if the wood does not meet someones taste. As you may be more rural than the heavily populated state I am in it may be much harder for you to find one local that you like. I have managed to score two and djpaintles seems a step ahead of me. You might look at gunsamerica.com and see if there is a nice one there pictured. Another way might be to offer $ for a select one. $800 seems like a good price for an 8400 Classic. I paid about $1000 for a Montana but that was one of the first out. As the pipeline fills competition should go to work lowering prices.

I've typically been a heavy barrelled remington 700 fan. When the WSM cartridges were introduced, I read every review I could get my eyeball onto. I couldn't wait for a heavy barrelled 700 rem sendero etc. to be available. to my chagrin all I could find were brownings and winchesters. They had pencil thin barrels, horrible triggers etc. Then I started reading about the 8400 Kimbers in the WSM caliber. One day I was in the local gun shop that I frequent. They had a Kimber 8400 in 300WSM. I was a Classic, not a superamerica or a montana. Although I own rifles that are stainless/synthetic, I'm a blue steel and wood fanatic. This rifle had absolutely beautiful wood and a matte finish. The only thing was it had a sporter weight barrell. I had the guy behind the counter let me see it. I put it to my shoulder and felt the weight. I fell in love with the classic lines of the stock. I had the salesperson get a trigger pull gage from the back. The trigger broke like glass at 3 pounds. I bought it on the spot. This was one week before the '03 deer season. Man I had to scramble to delop loads and sight it in for opening day. I broke in the barrel with 300 strokes of jb bore paste/kroil on a bronze brush and ended up shooting 165 gr. Sierra HPBT's over H414 powder. Sub inch groups are the norm if I do my part. I have been amazed at the accuracy of this rifle considering the sporter weight barrell. Recently I walked into the same gunshop. I took some targets in to show what my kimber was doing. I showed the guy three different groupings using Hornady interbonds, nosler ballistic silvertips and Barnes triple shocks. The salesman got a strange glint in his eye and said follow me, I want to show you something. Like an idiot I followed. There on the used gun rack was a brand new Kimber 8400 in 7wsm that was special ordered and the guy decided he wanted a 270wsm instead. The wood on this rifle was even more beautiful than on my 300 wsm. Man he set the hook and reeled me in, so to speak. He told me I could have it for $700. I never looked back. This 7wsm cloverleafs nosler 150 gr. ballistic tips over H4350 at 100 yds. I'm sold on Kimber. In fact I think I'm problably going to do a 84m in 260 remington after the first of the year. Anybody here have much experiece with 260 remington?

kTrout, Now you see. The only bad thing about Kimbers is that you can't buy just one!.... ......DJ
