This probably won't help you at all, but I have to say it anyway: I set the BOSS on my WinMag at 8.5 right out of the box and have not changed it. I've reloaded from 125 to 220 grain bullets and one of the recipes in each set of test loads always shot very accurately. Maybe if I tweaked it I could get the hot end of the test loads to shoot well, but with 8.5 the mid-range always did best. And, using the non-brake (CR) BOSS, I noticed no change in POI or accuracy. The CR is a good thing to have when it's time to go hunting. The BOSS is a horribly loud contraption, so bad that shooters at benches next to me FEEL it. It's cone-shaped blast area that reaches back.

5.5 on the boss for 180g Hornady and Partition gold. That is all I have ever shot and never moved the boss. Everyone said the noise is really bad but I used my standard ear protection and didn't notice any difference. The guy at the bence next to me noticed the muzzle blast. I have never hunted with it but I do have the CR if I ever do.

As far as where to set the Boss. I would go w/ the recommended manual setting and tweak it just alittle to see what works best for your load. Good Luck! Reloader

There is a manual that comes with Boss equiped rifles, an 800 number and I think a web site that give sweet spots. There is also a non muzzle brake that I suggest you obtain if you don't already have one. My Boss inflicted M70 shoots better without it and that saves a 1/4 lb of weight also.

Get some Good Ear Plugs first off. I reloaded for a 300 BAR w/ a Boss awhile back, It shot well w/ 150 SSTs over 66 grains of H4895. The SSTs were seated all of the way to the end of the cannelure b/c of the short Magazines the BARs are known for. Good Luck! Reloader
