I have been using the .338 Win. for elk for several years and am quite pleased with it. I shot two with the 225 gr. Nosler partition and four with the 250 gr. Nosler partition. I am able to get the 250 gr. going almost as fast as the 225 gr. in my rifle, so I use the 250 gr. This year I used the 225 gr. Barnes TSX, but did not get an elk. The Barnes is really accurate, averaging about 0.7-0.8 in my rifle. The best group was 0.13". but was probably mostly luck. I have not used the .338 on anything else except a few mule deer, so I can't make any recommendations for African game or big bears. The 225 Nosler partition and the 200 gr. Ballistic Tip both work fine on deer.

I have a 338-06 AI. For deer sized game, I would use the 210 grain nosler partition bullet. For heavier game, I would use the 225 Swift A-frame or 225 TSX bullet. I like the Swift A-frame alot. It is very accurate in my rifle at 2625fps. I bet you could get 2750-2850fps out of the 338 Win Mag with 225 grainers. Heavier bullets work fine on game but I don't see a need for anything heavier than the 250 grainers in the 338 WM chambering.
