Is the 30-338 WM a production rifle yet or still?

While the 30-338 is a very popular wildcat, it is not available in any commonly available rifle of which I am aware. Because it is so similar to the 308 Norma Mag, it probably will not ever be made. The 30-338 is what the 300 WM should have been, but for reasons known only to Win they decided to lengthen the case. Go figure. The 30-338 is perhaps the best balanced .308 Magnum. It will shoot right with the 300 WM, and is incredibly accurate. My gunsmith who specializes in making rifles in this caliber, recently tried the new fat magnums, but concluded after experimenting with them, that they offered no real improvement in performance. quote:Rem made a 40x in the 30-338 years ago. I have a #1 that K&P rebarrelled for me years ago and another on a Rem 700 in 30-338. I shot a 3pt mulley this year with the 700 and will be using the #1 for a late elk hunt. I like the 300wsm. I'm having one done with a 5R 1/12 twist barrel from Northern and hope to have it up for next year's elk season. When I did my 30-338 I could get WBY velocity and use 10 gr of powder less and I'm trying that with the 300wsm may work and may not. Tom

As with all Wildcats one may get the same velocity as a larger case with less powder and thats a selling point on all wildcat rounds that is overplayed IMO...Anytime you get the same velocity with a smaller case then you do so at higher pressures, simple as that, no other answer.... I believe the 30-338 is a very effiecient and probably the most practical of wildcats, but I would prefer the 300 Win Mag over it simply because it is not a wildcat and the difference isn't enough to justify the 30-338 in my case...
