Scope for .340 Weatherby
I'm about to acquire a slightly used .340 Weatherby Deluxe with a Weatherby scope (don't know if it's an Imperial or Premier). I will want to replace the Weatherby scope with a nice piece of glass. I'm thinking of a Swarovski since I don't currently own one, but don't want to run much over $1,000. Any recommendations on a Swaro (or something else) that will handle the .340 recoil over time? Thanks.

I'd put a 3-9x Zeiss on it and pocket the $600. You'd never notice the difference, and you could have a lot of fun with the extra cash, heck buy another rifle.

For me it would be the 3-9 Leo with LR dotz in it and or the 3-9 Burris with BP in it.

I'm a big time fan of the .340 and these two have always done well for me.

Good luck to ya

That's what I've got on mine (a 3-9 Conquest) and I've yet to find it lacking. It handles the recoil fine and is a pleasure to use. If I had the cash, I might look into something from S&B; they're about the best scopes I've ever seen. Swarovski's Z6 would be another great choice.

Techsan ----- I mounted a 4 X 16 Burris Signature on my .340 Wby and it has served me well from home to Colorado to Alaska. 700 rounds through it so far and aside from a bum mounting originally and a lesson learned on the mounts, all is well. If I had it to do now, I would mount a 4.5 X 14 Ziess Conquest to go with the other five I have on other big boomers that have given no problems. Good shooting.

A link to this thread: which of Leupold's VX line will NOT handle the recoil of the 340 Wby?

Go look through them. I would put a 4.5x14 on it. The 340 has lots of long range potential.

I've got several Leupolds, a Conquest, a Kahles,a Nikon Monarch, and a Weaver on my current guns, but I don't own a Swaro, which is why I'm considering one for this Weatherby. I think a Schmitt & Bender will be out of my price range. I do appreciate the comments folks.

I had a Swaro 3-10x, but switched it out for a vxiii 2-8x or is it 2.5-8x? Gun is a sako 338 laupa. Just found the smaller scope to be a bit more handy. Fine for groundhogs out to about 300 yds.

I have Leupole and Burris On all my rifles.
I haven't had any problems with them either.

For the eye relief I have a VXIII 3.5-10x40 Leupy on my 338-378 Wby... The Zeiss 3-9x40 would be an excellent choice as they have the eye relief and some excellent glass... Two of the Swaro A-line scopes are under a grand if your heart is set on a Swaro... The Nightforce are excellent scopes but are over a thousand...

Ditto.
I have had one of those on a 340 Wby since 1985.
Hunted Alaska with it may years. Never a problem. Bear in the alders, caribou at 350 yards, always just right. It has great eye relief and the light weight that makes it easy on the mounts. You will never need anything more or less than the Leupold 2.5-8X. Anything more is just puffery, anything less is just less.
