I saw a "custom" rifle made on a Howa action - possibly Howa barrel - is in 338-06 with matte finish and muzzlebrake - asking $525 - Never had anything in a Howa so claiming ignorance here - 338-06 is intriguing so with this limited info is this any good and worth pursuing?

The Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard/Mossberg 1500,1700/S&W 1500 is a fine action. I like it better than the Remington 700, and Nolser's model 48 is a proprietory verson of the Howa. I would imagine that it is a custom barrel. I would easily spend $500 on it depending on the barrel. It might even have the Timney replacement trigger in it, which is almost $100 the last time I looked.

I have several different rifle actions, Rem, Ruger, Mauser, Tikka, Win, Savage. and the Howa is my least favorite of all of one's I have. My Howa is a 1550 in .270 Win. that I wish was a Ruger 77 MKII thank you.

if its a 338-06 then its a build.
a build can be great or shit depending.
im sure the best action can be built as poorly as a howa or a savage can be built superbly.
its gonna depend on who had thier hands on the tools.

Howa/Vanguard are great actions to use. The Nosler rifles use Howa actions.

If I were going to use a push feed action I would use a Howa. I have had a few Howa rifles. I liked them all.

As a general rule, people are nuts!

I'm told my old Mossberg is a Howa 1500 under the covers. It is easily my favorite rifle.

It's japanese. you are exporting jobs. we did that in the uk with cars and motorcycles. no we have no car or motorcycle industry so to speak of. or any television industry, or wireless industry..etc., etc.

No US gun industry means no industry lobbyists to protect YOUR 2nd AMENDMENT RIGHTS. Think on it!

My Mossberg is a Howa design, but on the barrel it says made in Connecticut.

maybe if american gun manufacturers were concenred with quality instead of 1/4 cent on thier stock value then people would but thier product.
for $400 bucks i can get a remington action less barrel.
for $400 i can get a Howa 1500.
thats the main reson i shoot steyrs. not becasue they are european. when remington produces a rifle as accurate, safe and user friendly then ill but a remington.

I have my 416 Taylor built on a Howa action (was a 300Win mag)

And it is extremely accurate

I've also heard a few target shooters are using the Howa action with success and the money saved being spent on mounts, scopes and gunsmith work

regards

I found out that it has a Shilen barrel, Bell & Carlson bedded stock, muzzle brake, jeweled action. Probably worth $525. Seller says he has someone else on line for it but figure I would take it if the other guy doesn't.
