Anybody have any experience with this new line from Remington? I was thinking about the 799 in 7.62x39. From what I understand Zastava of Serbia will no longer make the Mini-Mauser for Charles Daly and they are making the 798 and 799 for Remington. Any ifo would be a big help. Thanks

I think it wise to take a wait and see.....Zastava has been making this for Daly but Remington took over and the guns won't be available for several more months. The mini has a reputation of spotty quality so far.....I have two and one was great and the other I had to rework a lot to get it to function correctly. It remains to be seen if Remington QA will detect these issues and screen them out.....to some here it seems that the term Remington quality assurance is an Oxymoron. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." It appears that rather than the entire rifle being made at the Zastava plant, Remington is importing the barreled actions and putting a Remington (or sub-contractor-produced) laminated stock on them that appears very close to the external contours of a Remington 700 stock. At least it's not one of those pedestrian plastic stocks that have become the hallmark of discount store guns. My question is will Remington make the Mini available in 7.62x39? That's the only caliber that interests me in this rifle. By the way, the Mini "Mauser" is anything but a Mauser. It follows the Sako design pretty closely with an external bolt guide that looks alot like a long claw extractor, but the bolt is pushfeed with the typical pushfeed extraction system. This is not a criticsm, however, in that the Mauser system is clumsy for the single-feeding that you do a lot of with the varminting cartridges typically made on this action.

It's listed on their website......but that's not much for assurance IMO. Daly sold it and I'd suspect Remington will as well. Look here They also have the 22-250 listed in this gun and that's pure /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I'd love to see it in 35 Remington. Talk about a woods rifle! Okie John "The 30-06 works. Period." --Finn Aagaard

vapodog, What's pure BS about a 22-250 in the mini-mauser? I'm not familiar with the gun. Is the receiver too short on one of these to accept the 22-250?? Thanks for your insight! Tom

The bolt body diameter is .545 on the Mini (compared to .690 on a M-70 standard bolt)....the case head is .473 on the 22-250...this leaves roughly only .05 ring width around the case. Further the lugs are mineature in size....this is much like the Sako L-461 bolt.....a very small bolt...not at all the one for the 22-250 cartridge. Someone posted as to having it from Daly.....and was extremely disatisfied with it as the magazine was still left for feeding the 223 cartridge. Just look at one of the bolts once and then tell yourself you trust those little tiny lugs to hold the 22-250 from your face. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." The 22-250 version has been sold in Europe for years but was not imported by Interarms or CD. I'd like to see it in 6.8 REM SPC. RELOAD - ITS FUN!

I had one of the mini mausers about 15 years ago. It was a true controlled feed action in 223. It was junk. I traded it to a dealer who had it for years-literaly. Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Overdoing.
