I have been out of shooting/hunting for several years, thanks to the hospital trying to kill me. Just before I was checked out for a while I received a 30 TC Thompson Icon rifle as a gift. At this time I would like to make this 30 TC into a .308
I am looking for help to tell me what is needed to achieve this--can the current barrel be rechambered or do I need to rebarrel this rifle to achieve my goal.
Any input/advice is appreciated--Thanks--Don

The shoulder on the 30TC measures .464" and the 308 is .454". The shoulder on the 308 is a little forward of the 30TC so some of the ring will be taken out by the 308 reamer. If you set the barrel back a turn it would disappear.

The 300 savage is a great round, but would require a rebarrel, as well. While the 30TC is a solution to a nonexistent problem, it’s certainly not a bad round. The 6.5 Creedmoor was created by simply necking it down.

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."
Or just rechamber it and you will have a little second shoulder just aft of the new 308 one. Won't hurt anything and will iron out when you resize the case. Will it shorten case life? I don't think so.
