The decision is 308 or 6.5

I don't reload and I will be shooting it suppressed

mainly a target gun as I will be getating barrels in 30/06 and 300 win mag for hunting

Thoughts and advice ?

Thanks

Mike

Good factory ammunition, and many choices, are available in both 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor, with the nod to the 308 variety-wise. If for target only, you really can't go wrong with either.

Or save yourself a barrel and get a 308 and 300 Win Mag. The 30-06 and 300 are too close.

308 is hard to beat especially if you don't reload.

in a blaser it doesn't make any difference - throw rocks instead

Which 6.5?

I would get a semi-weight 308, shorten to 18" and forget about spending money on 30-06 or 300WM barrels.

That barrel will do anything you like. 1000 yards or running game!

6.5 creedmoor

I am leaning todards a 6.5 as I don't have one and ammo is same price as 308.

Will also get a 300 win mag barrel and then I am all set.

Match ammo will be cheaper for the Creedmoor. The Creedmoor will beat the 300WM in drop and drift at 1K up to the 190gr. load in the WM. Of course the heavier bullet will have more energy.

For suppressed usage, I'd go with the .308, particularly if I didn't reload. Bear in mind that you'll probably want to shorten the barrel down to 16 1/4 inches or similar to avoid the "wand of destruction" syndrome associated with a 24" barrel + 8" suppressor. The faster expansion ratio of the .308 lends itself to faster burning powders which reduces muzzle flash and does less erosive damage to your suppressor.

That said, there are many 6.5 fans these days.

If you can get ammo when you need it, then I would go with the Creedmoor. If you decide to hunt with it, then I would go 308 simply because the places I hunt don't have stores with Creedmoor ammo available. But again, that is my hunting, yours may be different.

If I understand that correctly, you will have three barrels - .300 Win Mag, .30-06, and the suppressed barrel in .308 or 6.5. You don't reload so appropriate factory ammunition will need to be available for the suppressed barrel.

The answer then is simple. Choose the .308. The .308 is better suited to suppressed use and you can buy factory loaded subsonic ammo for it.

I am skipping the 30/06 barrel.

I have a 375 H&H blaser. I will get a 300 win mag that uses the same bolt.

I am thinking 308 or 6.5 on the blaser success - that way I get a non magnum bolt too.

Eventually with these two frames and two bolts I can add other barrels.

I want to shoot the 308 or 6.5 suppressed. My gun range is maxed out at 300 yards.

Since I don't reload I like to my rifles in similar calibers

22lr
17 Hmr
223/5.56
.308/7.62
7.5 Swiss - I love k-11/k-31
30/06
300 win mag
375 H&H
375 ruger
450-400

I have rifles I considered irrelevant and duplicate to my use

9.3x62
458 Lott

Adding a 6.5 is like adding another line item in ammunition
