I hear a 7 x 57 is a good medicine to take if you get bitten by the 280 Bug....

I immunized myself from the start with a 7 x 57 so I never had to suffer the disease.....

I hear a 7/08 or a 6.5 x 55 is also a good cure for that 280 Bug.....

I've had a couple, in fact shot the barrel out of one. Neither really amazed me with their accuracy and getting near to 3000 fps with 140s and those 22" barrels was dicey.

I guess I don't see the hang up with the 140 gr bullet, the 130 Speers work just great on whitetails and mulies, and getting 3000 fps from a 22" tube is not too difficult...

In fact, I shot a yearling doe just a few months back with a 280 and the speer 130s. Range was about 125 rounds, broad side, velocity was about 2900ish. Punch right through both shoulders and exited, the deer dropped on the spot.

I actually don't use the 140s much at all. The 130s (or 120 X) are my choice for open country whiletails and mulies. For bigger game, elk, I like the 160s and 175s.

Maybe if I hunted Caribou or Sheep more often I might use a 140 or 150, but those are rarely on my docket. Even then, I might stick with the 130 X...

I'm a fairly rabid .280 Rem fan.....even Fredj338 will vouch for me. He's been aware of my long time affection for the round.

I've got two and other than a few 175 gr NP's used on wildebeest in RSA ALL I have ever used from mine have been the 150 gr NP's. Work fine on deer, antelope and even elk.

Just AI'd the Rem 700 and picked up a cool 150 fps. NO huge deal but have always wanted an AI to play with. SEXY looking case for sure.

Great ctg, when loaded to it's potential.

This attitude demonstrates a VERY high order of intelligence, IMO, as anyone who loves BOTH the .280 and the .338-06 has got to be RIGHT!

Ruttenbuck:
Get with the times, I sold my .280 Rem 22" factory gun and I chronoed 150 gr noslers at 2940fps quite hot load and it shot very good.
But as I said its 2006 and get yourself the short stubby .280. I have a 7mmwsm In a model 700 with a Hart barrel 24" mcmillan stock 6.7lbs no scope,I found a load that shoots under .250 at 3100fps but to hunt I use 140 gr Lost River just over 3300fps 1/2+ and man it shoots flat with this bullet it has a BC of 644 after 200 yards it just blows away all other bullets I have tryed shot a 200lb Whitetail at 390 yards, it was like a lighting bolt hit him just a instant kill.

My .280 AI is an older Rem 700 in an HS Precision stock. Action was trued up,trigger lightened, 26" Douglas premium installed. Chambered in regular .280 Rem. Shot that gun for a few years, then picked up a Wby Ultra Lt Wt in std .280 Rem that shoots really well.
So decided to AI the Rem 700. Had a local smith do the job and the gun shoos just as well as before but now uses a bit more powder, has a sexier case and gives me +150 fps more with 150 np's.

Win/Win !!
