I'm Considering getting a .300 WSM. According to Nosler's book the 200 gr NAB can be pushed upwards of 2800 fps. With its high BC this would be a helluva load in a little package. Wondering if anyone has got this combo to shoot well? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the 270 won't do it the .338 will, if the 338 won't I can't afford the hunt!

WS, I have been able to get them to shoot quite accurately, but no where near that speed BUT, myy 300 WSM I shoot them in only has a 23ish inch barrel, I actually think it is 22 3/4" IIRC. I am seeing around 2620 or so. This thing is VERY accurate, as it also is with the 180 AB. I tend to go with the 180, I'm not a speed nut, but I'm over 100 fps faster with the 180's. It is pretty damn flat shooting for me even only just past 2600, and it is very stable. I'm in process of a re-build on one of my 300 WSM's, which will sport an Obermeyer barrel, and I'm planning on 25 1/2" for it, I think I may get close to that 2800 number in that rig, and will make that a dedicated 200gr rig. I get really great brass life with the WSM's, and in the Sako actions I have, I haven't ever had any feeding problems. The mag. won't let me seat them out far enough to get to the lands, but I will chamber the new barrelled rig such that I can. I do like the short action actually, and in the Edge stock, it is a nice handy lighteweight package, and despite that, recoil is very reasonable in my opinion. Good luck to you, I think you would like this setup.

Thanks Fish - I thought that velocity seemed high. Anyone else? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the 270 won't do it the .338 will, if the 338 won't I can't afford the hunt!

Lyman manual 48 has loading data for a 24" barrel with 200gr Nolser partition 2700/2800fps and if you look at Nolser data they use a 26" barrel. I've never shot 200gr in my 300WSM I use a 24" barrel and shooting 168gr TSX. VFW

I have a New Haven Win M70 Featherweight 300WSM with a 24 in barrel and I can only get about 2650 fps on my chrono with 200 grn Nosler Partitions before I get sticky bolt lift.

I tried several bullets in a Kimber 300 WSM with the following loads (best in class) 168 gr TSX - 65 gr IMR4350 / 3255 fps / 1 3/8" 180 gr TSX - 64 gr IMR4350 / 3062 fps / 1 1/4" 200 gr AB - 66 gr RL22 / 2851 fps / .9" 200 gr AB - 64.5 gr IMR4831 / 2887 fps / .9" YMMV ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________
