Have we seen an optimum case design appear in the last decade?

Question:
What is the optimum case capacity and design for bore sizes in the "thirties", .31" to .375"?

Choices:
.473" head, 2.1" length "308"
.473" head, 2.55" length "30-06"
.513" head+belt, 2.55" length "belted magnum"
.513" head+belt, 2.85" length "long H&H mag"
.532" head, 2.55" length "375Ruger"
.550" head rebated, 2.85" length "long RUM"
.590" head, 2.9" length "Rigby"

 

I have a general opinion on the 375 Ruger case:

It would seem to be the optimum, balanced, case design for .31" to .375" calibres.

It is hard to imagine a better 8mm, 338, 358, 366, or 375 cartridge for hitting hard in a smooth-feeding, medium weight rifle.

While it would work for the .40"+ bores, their natural 'do-all' capacity is probably the Rigby. And the under 30 and under can be handled adequately with the smaller capacities of the -06 and '308'.

Without a doubt, 375 Ruger.

Standard length, beltless, smooth feeding and in the perfect powder capacity of recoil/shootability.

A shorter barrel, 338/375 Ruger would be my ideal cartridge for the deer, elk and moose I hunt.

I prefer the .376 Steyr case to the .375 Ruger....especially for the smaller diameter .30s...and even for the .375" diameter itself.

I may be the only one who thinks that way, but I still have that privilege so far.

There are two of us. For 375 or smaller I think it surpasses the Ruger in shootability and has all the power needed for general hunting. It would make a smashing 8MM or 338.

Hey Alberta and Tigger, sorry I left the Steyr out of the poll. It is a great case, too, about halfway in capacity between the -06 and the 'belted magnum' capacities. the Steyr has a .506 case head and about a 2.4" length.
