A while back. i did a poll redareding some loads i was going to shoot in my 30,06. It was just for kicks , I wanted to see who thought wutch powder would shoot best in my ore 64 featherweight. The choices were H-414 60grs,
H4350-62 grs. IMR 406452 grs,(my pick) IMR-4350 59grs RL-19 62.5 grs RL-22 62.5 grs.
Bullet was a 150 grain speer flat base remington brass federal match primers and 3.25 oal.
Sundat=y before the game i drove out to the range and shot 2 3 round groups with each load.
Certanly not real scientific conditions were changing through out the shoot , but here is what i came up with
H-414 avg 1.135 avarage 2. 3shot groups
H-4350 1.385
IMR-4064 1.89
IMR-4350 1.515
RL-19 1.58
RL-22.175.
Avarage total for 12 3 shot groups 1.46
The best group was .56 with RL-22.
Wors was 2.29 with IMR 4350. 2.29
I think I must have pulled onein the big group with IMR 4350 cause the other group was .74 and in the bad group 2 were touching.
Let repear this is not real scientific, but I think i learned that my 06 will shoot most anything well enough for 300 yard deer shooting.
MY next plan is to throw away the worst 3 powders, and load 9 rounds each with the remaining 3. if the sun is around I will chrony this time.
The 3 I keep will be H-414
H-4350
IMR-4350 ...tj3006

several years ago I switched from IMR4350 to H4350..with a 180gr bullet the h4350 is a bit faster and does not vary with extremes in temperture.. If you can get good groups with H4350 that's the way i'd go.

As an aside, in the last 35 years of shooting the '06 I have gone from the 180 round nose to the 150gr flat base to the 165 gr flat base back to the 180gr but this time the flat base..They all killed well but i shoot regular Hornady bullets and think the 180 gives better pass through on 300# hogs we ocassionally shoot.

I plan to work up a load with 150 & 165 grain bullets. Wheb i bought the rifle I had some 180s loaded for another 06 I own, and I shot them it was RL-22 and a sierra boat tail. They shot very well. But with the old featherweight having no recoil pad it was a we bit less fun to shoot. I have a 35 whelen and a .338 win mag I would probably use when a heavy bullet is called for...tj3006
