The 8X60S Magnum Bombe loading is easily the ballistic equivalent of the .300 H&H .....

On the paper, yes.
Has anybody here sacrificed a few live rounds to chase them through a chronograph ?

I test fired once an old Magnum RWS round in my 8x60 MAS; no chronie, but the load was decidedly hot. My old Sellier & Bellot Magnum FMJ loads appeared moderate in comparison.

Carcano, I have never had the pleasure of firing an 8X60S in a bolt-action rifle, and thus have never tried the Magnum-Bombe load (if any are still available, even!!) However, I did work up one load for an old J.P. Sauer double 8X60RS, using Hodgdon H205 and 200-grain Nosler Partiton jacket bullets that gave 2620 FPS with pressures sufficiently low that it did no damage to the gun. Now that H205 is gone, the best I have been able to do is 2400 with that bullet using either H4831 or RE 22 with acceptable pressures. Now, that H205 load was pretty impressive!

However, I do believe that 8X60S Magnum-Bombe performance could be achieved with an 8X60 chambered in a modern, strong action like a Mauser or Ruger No. 1! I might even try one, if I could locate a chambering reamer. My level of motivation in this directiuon has not yet reached the point of having a reamer made, however!

Ok so this is not one of your listed calibres and reamers are probably non exsistent but what would a 9.3x62 case necked down to 8mm be like? I am not to familiar with the various 8mm calibres I do own an 8x57 and it seems quite good only ever used it for paper but shoots well as for the others you mention have heard of them but never seen them though any 8mm round is pretty thin on the ground here in Australia (with the exemption on 8x57)

Well, there's an 8X64 Brenneke, which ought to be about the same, maybe even hold more powder.....

Already exists. Factory cartridges. One even has almost the same base diameter as the 9,3x62 (which is a bit larger than the numerous M/88 family of cartridges).

It is called the 8x59 Breda, and then there is the 8x63 Swedish and the 7,92x61 Norwegian. All three of them are machine gun cartridges.

I would go with the 8mm-06 AI due to brass availability.

Here is the uncorroborated reloading recipe from a German hunting acquaintance (who like I owns a rare civilian MAS-36 in 8x60 "Magnum"):

Ich schiesse jetzt selbstgestrickte mit 53grs. H4350 hinter einem 185grs. Remington PSPCL, das ganze in einer umgeformten und gekrzten Lapua 30-06 Hlse, mit einem CCI 200 Znder. Damit schiet die Waffe auf 100m Loch in Loch.

To be self-critical, my answer may have been a little bit far-fetched...

The common and proven civilian cartridges in this range are the 8x60 and the 8x64, and while their case dimensions are ever so minimally different from the authentic 9,3x62, they are close enough. The 8x64S has cheap factory ammo and ample brass available, whereas the 8x60S is more expensive; but for reloaders, that won't make a difference. Both cartridges can easily be formed from others cases.

Some data: 8 mm m/32 or 8 mm Bofors. Cartridge length 85 mm Cart. weight 32,1 g Case length 63 mm Bullet weight 14,3 g Powder weight 3,6 g Velocity 760 m/s (G M/40, Ksp)

As mentioned before used in MG, but also in Gevr M/40, a german M98. Today these guns are very rare - I have never seen any.

I am leaning hard to the 8x60S because of the relatively lightweight and the shorter barrel. Plus, I can always have it pushed out (...). RWS brass, and load data is easy enough to come by in the interent age...

I have just scanned a nice array of different 8x60 factory cartridges (2x old 8x60I, various 8x60S, 1 uncommon 8x60RS Magnum-Bombe, and a 8x64S Brenneke for good measure).

But I need a site to host the image, or cannot post it, direct file attachment not being possible :-(

Let me try now...

<img src="http://www.gunboards.com/forums/uploaded/carcano/200482910237_8x60ammunition-small-2.jpg">

Nope, is too large when directly linked using the "image" tags, and img src does not work within the board.

So, how can I render its depiction smaller ?
