Okay, Friday I went and bought a used Remington 700 VSF in .308 and topped it with a Swaroski 6x18...My goal on that day was to look about trading a gun and some cash for a custom 700 in 7-08. Its a very nice gun, very light weight, thumb hole stock, muzzlebrake. Anyway, I'm thinking now I probably should have gotten the 7-08. Would you?

Six of one half dozen of the other.
Myself I am going to be getting a 7-08 so I am a little bias.
Both have a great selection of bullets depending on twist rate and what you intend to do.

Hello muzzleblast525,
Unless your rifle is out of the ordinary, it will deliver superb accuracy out of the box. The 308 caliber is fortunate to have years of development behind it and many superb loads alread developed. Sierra can be of great value on loads for your rifle. Would venture you have a 12 twist which is about ideal for the caliber and works very well indeed with bullet weights from 150 up to and including the 190 Sierra MK's. Varget and IMR 4064 outstanding powders and many like Reloader 15 as well. Not keen on ball powders, but AA2520 known as "camp perry powder" but a lot of that was done with the M14/M1A. In any case, I would stay with the 308, but to each his own.

What do you plan on hunting with the rifle?? With the scope you've mounted, I assume varmints.
I've never been too keen on thumbhole stocks for hunting. From the bench they are great.
