There are still several wood stocked M70s in Long action, short action & FW versions at the Wexford PA Sportsmans Warehouse. The guy at the gun department said that most of the rifles people buy are the Ruger M77s followed by Remington 700s. Judging from teh ugly walnut on the Winchesters they have I can see why. It is also probably a big reason why M70s are no more

Mostly WSM's and WSSM's left around the northern front range of Colorado.
Matt FISH!!
Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."
In my area, the local sporting goods store doesn't have any Model 70's left save for several heavy barrel varmint rigs. Wally World still has their low price leaders. I have a stainless Camo Ultimate Shadow 7mmWSM coming in a few days from now. I am still looking around, if this is the end of Model 70's, then I still need a few more!

shootaway, I was refering to those cheap Model 70's that WalMart sells for $389 US. The push feed models with solid plastic floorplate, instead of a metal floorplate that actually opens. Technically speaking, a low price leader would be an item priced unusally low, just to get people in the store shopping.

I didn't know there was a Winchester that was made exclusively for Wal-Mart or one that is really cheap.A plastic floor plate is bad news.I had a Steyr that had one,and had to take a spare floor plate to the range every time. Each one cost 100 bucks.

LBGuy, I tried ordering from there web site and the store turned me away. My brother tried in Pa and was turned away also. The fine print on the web site indicates this service is not avalaible at all stores (even if they sell firearms). The WalMarts up here even sell handguns yet they would not allow me to order what I wanted to from there site. I was trying to order a Ruger rifle. But seriously, you can probably forget ordering a Winchester even if your store allows it as they simply have not updated there web site yet.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.
I just was in WalMart this evening, and they still had their M70's. I neglected to mention that they also come with some sort of a disposable scope (I didn't inquire as to what it was) for the princely sum of $398.87 US! I'm sure those rifles will become a treasured family heirlooms for those lucky enough to score one!
