I do - although not on a VZ24 action. My VZ24 is in 243 Win.

My 8mm-06 is a Parker-Hale Super Safari with 8mm military stepped barrel screwed in and chamber recut. I use 170 grain projectiles , loaded with AR2208 - somewhere about 56 grains but I would have to consult my notes on that . Dont use that load without doing your own research, obviously.

Because this is one of several -06 based cartridges I load for this is the only one that I use 30-06 brass with . Dont own a 30-06 so not much chance of confusion.

What do I think of it ? Shoots just fine , doesnt do anything my 338-06 cant do , has moderate recoil , things fall down when I hit them right .Its an interesting wildcat that filled a gap when it was invented. I like it , and should shoot it more .

I've got a 8mm-06 Remington 700. I use it as my elk gun. It has a 23" barrel with a 1-9 twist. I chose the fast twist so I would be able to shoot some of heavier 8mm bullets, but the funny thing is that the barrel turned out to prefer the lighter bullets. It shoots the 180 gr Barnes much better than any of the heavier bullets like the 220 Woodleigh.

I started out necking up some 30-06 brass, but later bought some Quality Cartridge brass with the 8mm-06 headstamp.

I put on a McMillan stock. I really like it and think it is a good elk gun.

.........whats your favourite bullet weight for heavier game, sambar (elk), etc ??.........I was thinking of improving the case and using a 250gr bullet to duplicate the 318 WR as near as I could with the 8mm

It will do 2800 fps with a 200 grs bullet - with a SD above .275! No other cartridge based on the 06 case will do that!

ConfusedBent, posted velocity of the 200 and 210 grain bullets in the .338-06 are a hair over 2800 fps.but they do not have the same BC or SD, yet super close. fishingroger

Roger,
Well, obviously in that case, everyone with 338-06s should rebarrel to 8mm-06. Wink

fishingHaving never built a .338-06 or shot one for that matter, I guess from what I have done I'd have to give your 8mm-06 statement serious consideration! Confused Roll Eyesroger tu2roger

I have one in VZ-24, and while it seems to shoot good it isn't one of my favorite rifles. I'm able to do around 1.5" with 175 grain bullets. Haven't tried anything heavier yet. Just got too many other rifles to play with, and I really just bought this one for the action to build somthing else on at a later date.
