I just picked up a like-new Husqvarna Model 640 Mauser in 30-06 for cheeeap. I was wondering if these rifles in 9.3x62 have a larger barrel contour? This rifle is in mint condition, so I may not mess with it and just try to make a buck or two (don't need another 06'). However, I really like the looks and feel of the gun, and am tossing around the idea of a rebore to 9.3x62. The barrel measures 0.582" at the muzzle. I am also wondering about when this rifle was made. The action is FN commercial with a crown over what I think is a stylized "H" over "SWEDEN". The receiver has not been drilled or tapped, except for the receiver aperture sight holes factory drilled (I think) on the right side of the rear bridge. Solid left wall, with military safety shroud. Beech stock (very soft, as I already put a small dent in the bottom of the forend! Mad) Dovetailed ladder rear and ramped bead front sights. Hope this description helps with production date. OH! The serial number (only on the barrel) is 1163XX. Searching the internet, I couldn't find any serial number production dates for Husqvarna rifles. Maybe someone out there has a book with this info. I would like to learn as much as I can about this rifles production history. DeHaas' book didn't have any specific info about the FN action Husky's, only the latter production "improved mauser" Husky's. BTW, this is an "H" ring version. Thanks in advance for any and all info.

ColoradoMatt, I have a Husqvarna just like the rifle you described. My rifle is factory chambered in 9.3x62. This rifle is in the 1108XX serial number range with the barrel being .575" at the muzzel. My rifle is mechanically excellent but the stock has been badly dinged up and has been cracked and then cross bolted. Most of the bluing is worn off the barrel and the cheap factory sight were replaced with express sights. This gun has seen a lot of use and is deadly accurate. If you go the 9.3x62 route I don't think you will be disappointed. It is one of my favorite calibers and a deadly killer with managable recoil.

Hey ColoradoMatt,

If you decide to rebarrel rather than rebore, please let me know. I'd be interested in buying the Husqvarna 30-06 barrel, especially if it is in the nice shape you noted.
